Hi all. I’m considering a hysterectomy, I’m 34 but have had all the babies I want to have and the pain and bleeding is worse than it’s ever been now.
I’ve had three laps with removal, all by a very good endo specialist surgeon, chemical menopause, every contraceptive possible and tried diet changes, natural treatments etc. I just can’t carry on like this anymore, the bleeding is insane, it’s irregular and so heavy. I’m exhausted, my brain is so foggy. When I take contraceptives it stops for a few weeks and then it’s like my body gets used to it and rebels with none ending bleeding for weeks, sometimes months!
My last removal was November so I’m trying to keep hopeful and let everything settle more before I speak to gynae again but I wondered for those that have had it, does it stop bleeding completely?
I 100% know that it is not a cure for endo and could be no help at all for the pain but if it stops me bleeding then that would be amazing and make my life so much easier!

Sorry I have no advice, but want to follow this post and see what others say. I'm also 34 and have finished having babies but reluctant to go on contraceptive again for the same reason you just stated with the bleeding etc. Interested to see what people say.
Sorry to hear this Rjb_88. It sounds like a total nightmare & a big decision you have to make. What I would say is please read all you can about having a hysterectomy as this is not always the answer or cure.
Has you Gynae suggested this could be the best option for you ? Are they going to leave your ovaries or is it a full hysterectomy.I personally had fibroids which caused extreme pain , swelling of my uterus which left me looking 4/5 months pregnant. They did many procedures on me before they would even consider a hysterectomy.I basically had to fight for it.They were very reluctant at my age 39 at the time & I too said we had had our babies my husband had had a vasectomy & id had an ablation so even if I was to become pregnant it would have been unlikely to have carried a baby.I had a full hysterectomy which threw me into full menopause which was hell for the first 2 yrs.I still have many symptoms now which I live with daily. But I don’t regret it at all . So I’d personally gather up as much info & way up the pros & cons. Really look into how it will change your life. The Menopause is no easy option.Hope this helps x
Hi I'm 39 too and having all the symptoms mentioned above, I have two children and have asked for a historectomy and waiting for decision. Did you go on HRT to help with your symptoms of menopause? I'm on zoladex injections with tibolone HRT at the moment as a trial my bleeding has now stopped and the pain is much better than it was. But really can't go back to how it was after these injections stop. Any advice on histo would be welcome 😊
Wow that’s great news for you at least you seemed to have found something that works for you & your body.Yes I’m on hrt patches not going to lie I was very unsure about them with all the bad press hrt gets.I decided to go on a very low dosage but I have noticed recently how tired & achy my joint & body seems.I may have to have another chat with my Dr.I had very little help previously as I wanted to try & do it as naturally as possible , however I was basically told to go away research it myself & come back when I wanted HRT.
What advice would you like about the Hysterectomy ? Full procedure ? Ask me anything I will be as honest as I can vbut remember this would be my own personal experience & I am a sensitive to pain & feel I’m very in tune with my body.So others may not have felt the same !
Thanks! Yes, I’ve done a lot of research and thought, it’s been something myself and my consultant have discussed for a long time so no fight needed now and seeing my Mum have one too means I’m fully prepped. Also know it isn’t a cure for endo as I mentioned, it’s more about the level of bleeding I inexperience, which we’ve exhausted all options for ☺️
Sounds like you have done your homework.I’d personally say if their are more pros to having it done then go for it.You say you don’t want anymore children & let’s face it if we struggle now when we are younger what’s it going to be like as we age.If you have support around you & you’ve done all your research then go fight to have it done! It’s your body & I think sometimes we know it better than the professionals.
I desperately want hysterectomy I begged and begged every time I’ve seen my gynaecologist
they don’t seem to be considering it is grim I just feel miserable. It is never ending.
because of otherhealth conditions I cant have contraceptives
I also am epileptic… So I can’t have a HRT
They just give me ProStap injections which completely stop the bleeding is that something you would consider the pain does reduce but-there’s also a considerable amount of unpleasant side effects (I don’t think I can continue with these injections for making my life miserable)
I think if you’ve had so many removals of endometriosis and have tried all the medication, they should consider a hysterectomy
Whereabouts in the country are you a think that has an impact on decisions xx
Hi! My consultant has already agreed, so no fight or convincing needed, I just need to decide when or if I want to get it done. She’s very pragmatic and I’ve been with her for a very long time so she has been part of everything.
I’ve had Prostap, wasn’t the right treatment for me after trying for a year, but if I have the op I’ll keep my ovaries so won’t go into menopause until later, and then I can go on HRT again.
Sorry you are having such a crap time with it all!
hi I have had similar issues am 39 and last year had full hysterectomy and it’s been amazing have had no pain at all no bleeding I will say the operation recovery was hard but was back at work in 8 weeks and apart form the menopause that’s not fun but will take hot flashes mood swings over the pain and heavy bleeding any day 😊
Hi! I decided to stop all hormonal contraceptives to see if that helped as a last option - I am so much better not being on them so I’m going to hold off for a while and see how I go. We’re constantly told to go for hormonal contraceptives to suppress / control the endo but after 20 years of it it just isn’t the right thing for me.
Still getting pain regularly and it is intense but I only bleed during my period now which lasts 5 days so it’s manageable with tranexemic acid, pain relief etc and the rest of the month I manage the pain as best I can with meds, tens / heat etc.
It’s such a relief to not be bleeding heavily every week, I’d recommend trying it if you can and seeing if it helps ☺️
