I have been on waiting list for hysterectomy for about 15 months. I am 37 and I am feeling nervous about having the operation done. I don't have a date for op yet but I have my pre op tomorrow. Can anyone tell me their experiences if they have had a hysterectomy. They are going to remove both my ovaries because I get a lot of pain in them.
Thank you in advance

Hi lovely. I had my hysterectomy a year ago, complete, took everything, including cervix and some vagina. I also had bowel shave and temporary illeostomy at the same time. The operation was fine, long, but ok. I had plenty of pain relief and a spinal block too, not sure if they do that as standard for hysterectomy? Main thing is to take your time, don't push yourself and listen to your body. Its a big operation. Don't go home until your pain is under control. Remember a cushion for under your seatbelt, big knickers that don't rest on the scaf and nighties are easier than pyjamas i found! Good luck. X
Hi, thank you for your message. The nurse mentioned bringing sanitary towels. Do you bleed after the operation. She said i will be having laparoscopic hysterectomy is that what you had x
there removing everything except one ovary, I’m underweight and their worried about my bones and don’t want me to menopause. So trying to keep 1, if possible of course. It’s all keyhole too. Is yours keyhole ? The scariest part was signing saying it was ok to remove endo of my bowels and bladder if needed as theirs a risk for needing a colonoscopy bag, 😔 such scary risks. With no other options.
It is scary and like you say there aren't any other options. Hopefully in the future they can find different ways of helping women with endo. Mine is going to be keyhole
hi lovely I had a hysterectomy almost two years ago now, they took everything except my ovaries (which they are taking on the next surgery). I would agree with others, rest and take it very easy at first. Drink sooo much water before and after op as it keeps everything moving too x
