Zoladex will put you into a temporary menopause. It will definitely stop periods and it will stop endometriosis from getting worse, and may stop symptoms. It is very effective. However, there are reasons why it’s not good to be in menopause at a young age, and it’s not a long term solution if you are younger. It’s not usually something you try first.

Contraceptives such as depo provera may stop periods and thus may reduce the symptoms of endometriosis and stop it from getting worse. Contraceptives have fewer side effects, and fewer risks, and they can be prescribed and overseen by a GP, whereas only a gynaecologist or other specialist can oversee Zoladex for endo. It is usually worth trying different contraceptives (pill, injection, coil) to see if they help endometriosis before trying hormone blockers like Zoladex — unless of your course your gynaecologist is telling you that Zoladex is the best option now?

Ask your doctor to explain the pros and cons of both!

Like wanwood has said, there are other alternatives before you look at a gnrh like zolodex. I’m on prostap injections (same as zolodex) and tibolone - it is not a fun experience but it is the final option for me before a hysterectomy.

Why don’t you speak to your doctor about trying depo as that can work really well, then there is the patch, implant, coil etc which are all good options. You will need to see a gynaecologist for zolodex and they’ll want to try other options first potentially

Unfortunately there is no evidence that zoladex stops endo from getting worse, especially when severe. GnRH agonists such as zoladex only stop ovarian endo but endo produces its own oestrogen within its own cells which is not stopped by zoladex. The main difference is that you should only take zoladex for 6 months and it should only be given from age 23 whereas depo provera can be taken longer.

Ultimately medical treatment only addresses symptoms so surgical treatment is usually considered better as the symptoms can be masked leading to more severe endo down the line.

Depo povera injection is worst. I'm used in my age of 15. This injection completely worsen my problem. Heavy bleeding was one of the most side effects.so I did not recommended to any one.

Thanks for reply
