Pain post op after cyst removal

Morning, i’m a new member and just looking for some reassurance post op. I had emergency surgery to remove a 10cm cyst on my right overy, which ended up with the removal of the overy and tube on 3rd September. The pain from the small incision sites on my right side and belly button seem to be settling well but the pain from the large incision under my tummy is causing a-lot of sharp pain especially on my left hand side. There is a hardening of the area and numbness but no redness or weeping. I noticed a strange odour from down below but that seems to have stopped. No water infection and going to the loo ok. Im hoping its just the healing process and things settling down. Ive never had anything done like this before and it has all been a bit of a shock to the system. Im very emotional and crying a lot. i had the mirina coil put in at the same time as surgery on my consultants advice. There is no follow up appointment planned or check up. Im not sleeping well and think that if i could just get a good nights sleep in a bed i would feel a lot better. How long do you think i should leave it before i contact my GP if there is no improvement before im supposed to be back at work on 21st September?

Thank you ☺️

Hi, if you're worried get the nurse to check your stitches. If infected it weeps and is smelly. It could be the stich is tight and they will cut it when ready. Hope you feel better soon and welcome to the group. It's nice to get advice on here when you're worried or have questions. If you know they are OK you might sleep more soundly 😊

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the advice. Im feeling a little better today now i know I’m not alone in this ☺️ Its a whole new world to me i really had no idea so many women suffer so much. The support here is so valuable!! Im going to call my surgery later in the week if there is not much improvement and get a check up, if necessary get my sick note extended. I think i just need to be patient and give myself time to heal. Im not used to being idol but my body is screaming at me right now and i need to listen to it however hard that may be. Xx

Large incision? Did you have open surgery? I had a similar op that ended up as open - 4 lap incisions, drain and the large open surgery incision. I needed signing off for longer than the initial period the hospital recommended (4-6 weeks) in the end and I've never really taken sick leave before. Was knocked out first week.

Also had to see nurse about infected incision, said I'd just had surgery they gave me priority appt, swabbed it for infection and checked temp, then gave me correct antibiotics for the swab result when it came back. Xxx

Thank you so much for your advice, my larger incision is on my bikini line its about 4 inches long with 3 lap incisions in the usual places. Im sorry to hear you had a similar experience to me. Ill be sure to keep an eye on my wounds for infection, I’m managing the pain with paracetamol & ibuprofen but will be contacting my surgery later in the week if it doesn’t improve. A bit like you i’ve never had much reason to have time off sick but will definitely be asking for an extension of my sick note should i need it. Xxx

I was in hospital 4 nights, sick note for 5 or 6 weeks, extended by my GP by another few weeks - pain had subsided but I was just plain exhausted! Don't strain yourself or lift things, and give the stitches inside and out time to heal X
