Hi all has anyone had experience of a colonoscopy whilst trying to conceive. I called the department and asked if it was safe, and they said it should be unless your pregnant. Didn't sound altogether helpful as it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation.
I'm having it on the 3rd August and we are actively trying to conceive. I'm not due until the 11th so it would be too hard to tell if I was.
Also any tips on how to prepare other than the Bowel prep? Sedation versus not? How long does the actual procedure take? I've had an endoscopy which was very uncomfortable with gag reflex but it wasnt too long.
Thanks all

Before I went down for my 1st colonoscopy the anesthetist asked if I could be pregnant, don't know what she would have done if I said yes. So there must be a reason for her to ask and the sort of answer you got from the endoscopy unit. My friend decided to suspend trying for a baby until her op was over, maybe a good idea?
Sedation for a colonoscopy is given but you are still awake, I felt fine hardly any discomfort, weird I know but I found it fascinating looking at my bowel on the TV screen🤭, for me the op was over in 40 mins but can take 60 mins. It depends on if the Endoscopist can clearly see all the bowel that's why the prep is so important. Good luck🍀
I think to be safe I'll hold off trying this month. Thanks. Would you opt for the sedation? Does that mean they just numb the area if you're awake? Thanks so much x
My 1st op was private so they anesthetised me, my latest I was given Fentanyl (an opid) -I was still awake but felt no pain just a little initial discomfort, I am pleased that I chose this option. Are you going private or NHS, what type of sedation have you been offered?
If it was I would not try that cycle sounds risky & personally it would be awful to be potentially be pregnant & risk it after you want it so much. I tried for 7 years to have our daughter so I know how hard it is to put trying on hold ( I had to for 3 laps) but your health matters too. All the best with everything xxx
