My laparoscopy and hysteroscopy op was cancelled due to lockdown, but has now been re-confirmed for the end of July. I'm really nervous and I just wanted to ask you guys if you have had these two procedure done at the same time what your experience was? and also if there's any advice you can give me that you would have wanted someone to tell you beforehand at all?
I'm also meant to be having a Mirena coil put in at the same time, and I wanted to know any of your experiences about having this?? I'm really unsure about having it and don't know what to do.
I would much appreciate any info!
Thank you
Hope you're all taking care still. X

I had a hysteroscopy and the Mirena coil fitted during my laparoscopy last year. I would say there is absolutely nothing to worry about having both these extra things done during the laparoscopy, if anything it is a lot nicer as you are asleep and don't feel it happening!! I was probably more sore afterwards than if I was just having the laparoscopy as my body was recovering from both the operation and then the introduction of the Mirena. I don't think I have been getting on well with the Mirena, but for some women it can be amazing for their symptoms so I would say it is worth a try as for you it may work! For me it has really helped with my period length and blood loss, but my pain has remained and can be worse than before at times. I am due to have a scan just to check my coil is in the correct place but I think then the plan is to have it removed as it just isn't working for my body. BUT every body is different, so just go with what feels best for you.
Do not worry you will be asleep. My Gynae told me what he would do if Endo was found and he said I would be tender afterwards. If you have any concerns ask he/she beforehand.
I am not a fan of the Mirena as I knew it would not be for me but I am sure you will get mixed feedback from us ladies. Sending big hug🤗 and good luck
Thank you for your reply. I have been really thinking about the pros and cons of the mirena, and I have decided not to go with it. I know some people really get on with it, but I think I'd rather try more herbal remedies to start with and also diet to try and help the hormones that way. I've been looking into the herb agnus castus, which is meant to help give more progesterone. Good luck with the scan and I hope you find the right thing for you. Take care x
I had my Mirena coil last hear and am still waiting for my surgery. I personally found the Coil very distressing and was in masses of pain afterwards. I ended up needing to go to see an out of hours GP which explained the pain was due to the coil reacting with the endometrial tissue. However everyone responds differently! A year later and the coil has been an absolute saviour compared to when I was on the pill despite the initial pain. Just make sure you keep topped up on strong pain killers the first couple of days after!
Good luck and take care of yourself and have plenty of rest!
I haven't had a hysteroscopy at the same time but a tip for getting rid of the gas they use during the laparoscopy is to take plenty of deflatine post op and have plenty of lactulose on standby as you don't want to be straining to go to the loo. The gas somehow can travel to the shoulders where it is painful- this passes but it is good to know what is happening to you. Deflatine can ease this a bit.
I had the mirena fitted at the same time and my first one was a great improvement of my symptoms. I no longer felt like gravity was weighing me down, my periods eventually stopped albeit a tiny amount very infrequently. When the drug inside started wearing off after 5 years I knew about it as the pain started returning and was eager for another. I had another lap where they took out the old and replaced with the new (best way I reckon) and got rid of some more endo.
I now have Adenomyosis too and have some back pain but I do think the coil has been a godsend. Whilst my situation now is not great, I do think I would be in a much sorrier state without it as I was so depressed before the first coil and operation where they unstuck adhesions and zapped all the endometriosis.
It is good to have someone who can look after you post op if you can (to get you drinks and food mainly), for a week so you can properly rest and recover.
Thank you for that info, I will definitely look into deflatine and lactulose now. That's not something I'd heard before but makes sense as she told me they use gas to open up the areas. I will definitely be more prepared now thank you and also about the shoulders- I wont need to worry if this happens.
I think I might not get the coil right away, as I'd rather try herbal remedies first just to see if that works. But it is good to know you had a good experience with it, I will definitely bear that in mind if I consider having it in the future.
Sory to hear about the adenomyosis, I hadn't heard of that before. I hope your situation improves.
Luckily I have my boyfriend who can take care of me thank goodness for him!
