Hi,
Does any have any advice/tips to try help lack of appetite and persistent nausea?
Thank you
I haven’t worked this one out myself yet properly. When bowels are clear it’s a bit better. Probiotics help a little.
Doesn’t help all that much with the nauseous feeling, but what certainly doesn’t make it worse (for me) if you’re feeling a bit wobbly and need to eat is Nairn’s stem ginger oatcakes. I just eat them plain. Apples help too often, but not on a totally empty stomach.
Things that randomly help me when I have bad nausea:
- still lemon&lime water
- sweet & salty popcorn
- bubblegum bottles (this one is super random!)
- plain crackers - or topped with a thin layer of spread
- STAY COOL! Being hot can really trigger nausea for me which I know is difficult right now considering the weather
If you’re really struggling with it, I’d say contacting your GP is your best bet xx
Hiya. I feel for you. I was permanently nauseous when I was on Implanon to stop/reduce my periods - was really hard to deal with. I had a prescription for Stemetil (anti-nausea med), which did help, but it has side effects and I really hated taking it regularly.
Being off hormonal contraception has really helped - I now get nauseous only maybe a week a month now and it's far more manageable.
Tips:
- Ginger... tea, fresh in water, can take in dried form
- I am addicted to my hot water bottle for my chronic pain but it makes my nausea worse. I use BeYou patches instead of heat when I'm nauseous now and the cooling is better.
- I get it worse in the morning, but if I can force myself to eat a banana or something else healthy and plain (no citrus or anything too harsh on the tummy), and tons of ginger tea I normally feel it passing by lunch time.... enough to be functional in the afternoon (and eat a decent dinner - lots of veg!)
- Caffeine seems to be a devil!
- CBD works for me
Hope you find something that works for you xx
I have been having similar nausea especially in the morning but lack of appetite throughout the day. I've relied on ginger (candy, tea, beer, tabs) and also use an oil diffuser necklace to combat the discomfort. I've been taking probiotics for the last month and haven't noticed an improvement but plan to continue to take them.
I echo previous comments about continuing to eat small meals. I even told my family they needed to support me in this because I had no appetite. They'd make me a plate of food.
Drinking water is important too. I like the ideas mentioned above of adding flavor.
I've also been encouraged to take an acid reducer before bed to help with the discomfort. Also you could try a 21 day acid reflux program.
Lastly look into the Gaps diet and the FODMAP diet for foods that support gut health. The fodmap even has an app to tell you what foods are hard to digest.
Hope you have started feeling relief!
