Can anyone tell me why endo causes nausea? I think my nausea is due to hormones despite not being on the pill or any drugs. Do we actually produce more hormones? As in do the endo deposits produce their own hormones? Or is it just due to the pain/ healing cycle etc?

I ALWAYS get nauseated before my period starts, birth control or no birth control. It is hormonal, but not sure why. I have learned to watch my symptoms and try to control my eating habits before bed on those days. I also have to take antacids and anti-nausea pills. Most of the time it works, but not always. Sometimes those "i have to eat everything in the house" moments get the better of me, then i pay for it in the middle of the night by being violently sick.

I'm intrigued to the answer to this as i wake up with nausea every night and suffer most mornings also.

I take anti sickness tablets when I need them and tried anti acids but they made me feel worse...

It also gets bad with particular foods, but change of diet or not, the nausea shows itself when I least expect!

Thanks for your replies. Well mine is just like morning sickness! Happens throughout the month randomly but more so when ovulating and on the lead up to period. Doesn't make a difference what I eat. I also notice an increase in my sense of smell when the nausea hits just like when I was pregnant also! I'm sure it's down to raises in both estrogen and progesterone but what it don't understand is why it has become progressively worse since the endometriosis has become worse. Very strange! I've not tried anti sickness tablets yet as I felt I'm taking enough at the min but might try them if they help! I'm terrible for wanting to know the reasons for everything!

Hi,

I have this. It has been my most debilitating symptom and pretty much is constant. It is worse as said above when I should be ovulating or coming on (I don't however as I have been back to back pill packing for ages and now coil). There us a link with endo and excess oestrogen which is the case when pregnant so I presume it really mimics pregnancy. My stomach is so weak now though that certain smells make me retch and I cannot look at certain things for the same reason. A friend of mine is newly pregnant and in discussion has all these symptoms so it makes sense. It has caused me to lose a huge amount of weight though. However, whenever this nausea is raised I have had it dismissed but it makes a lot of sense with the nature of the disease. Ginger I would suggest. I have some anti nausea but I am reluctant as I do not want to rely on pills as this seems a long term symptom for me.

Thanks for your reply! It's awful isn't it. If it wasn't for the lack of sex I am having at the moment I would definatly think I was pregnant. If it is due to excess estrogen I'm wondering why? I know some people think that excess estrogen is down to estrogen rich foods/ plastics etc but I don't particularly eat much of those things anyway. Plus from what I gather from the recent research areas of endo are laid down before we where even born and are only activated when puberty hits. I don't know.. Ha ha! Maybe it's excess estrogen or maybe the effect a normal level of estrogen effects a body with endo? Life shouldn't be about trying to figure this type of crap out should it! Lol! X

Both pain and stress and hormones contribute to feeling nausea....... why do pregnant women get morning sicknesss (all day in a lot of cases)? They are not ill as in nothing is actually 'wrong', but the body can be very sensitive to changes in hormones. Lots of hormones can be affected and they can disrupt the blood pressure causing problems with the inner ear which causes giddiness and nausea - like motion sickness.

then you have to contend with the changes to the digestive tract and the chemicals in there- which means you suddenly become hyper sensitive to certain foods and drinks and they can make you feel queasy too.

It isn't just one thing...these hormones are racing all round the body - the battle is on to try and heal the wounds all over the place where ever the endo is bleeding and whatever body part that bleeding is landing on and irritating, so you don't have much of an immune system and healing system available to actually do battle with any virus or bacteria that is also attacking the body which happens constantly.

Endo deposits do not produce their own hormones... glands produce hormones and endo is not a gland. it is a cell that reacts to hormones.

Nausea affects people in different ways and different causes contribute to making that worse in some than in others. Just look how some pregnant ladies sail through pregnancy while others just cannot keep any food down for weeks and months.

My mum was so unwell in her 4th pregnancy that she weighed less at full term delivery than she did when she got pregnant. She was violently sick even on the morning my brother arrived in the world. There was no let up for the entire pregnancy. Yet her next pregnancy after that was a breeze.

We are each unique and react to disturbances in the equilibrium of hormones in our own way. Good luck finding a better balance of meds and diet to try and be more comfy with the nausea.
