Painkillers

I am in agony, been given zapain and just taken oramorph for breakthrough pain when it is it either that or hospital. I am crying as I write this. I am desperate for some relief from it. What other pain killers work for you? I have:- hot water bottle works wonders for the everyday pain I call it, zapain for pain that doesn’t work with hot water bottle and oramorph for those times where it is torture. Also take movicol when I take these painkillers to keep my bowels in regular order. Just seeing if anything else anyone swears by. Love and hugs xxxx

Are you combining with paracetamol as well?

Can I add paracetamol to the mix? I thought zapain already contained paracetamol I am so confused

I’m not sure what’s in Zapain, it will tell you on the box. If it is, no. If it’s not speak to GP first as it’s dependant on various things.

I’m currently taking Naproxen twice a day, paracetamol 3/4 times and Nefopam 3 times. Different times. Morphine in the background for occasional use. I did try leaving off the Nefopam for a few days, but didn’t really work out.

Do you find that holds all the pain? X

Sort of, one of the worst causes of pain is the constipation. I’m still trying to find balance with the remedy for that. I know pain killers don’t help, but they aren’t the cause. One of the reasons I’ve tried shifting things around. The naproxen’s better than ibuprofen, GP suggested going back on it recently.

Have a chat with GP and they should be able to help. It might suit you better to take things individually, it can be hard to get the balance straight away.

Hello.

I’m so sorry you are in such terrible pain.

I also have zapain everyday and it contains paracetamol and also I have tramadol for when that doesn’t work.

Also I take pregabalin for nerve element of pain.

I’d like something stronger as none of the above really touch the pain some days.

My consultant advised that due to my previous surgeries I have nerve damage and scar damage.

I wondered whether an element of your pain could also be nerve related?

Hot baths with some herbal bubble bath (I find the neals yard arnica foam bath best) are great but pain usually returns not long after getting out.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you get some form of relief soon xxx

Thank you I may look into pregablin as I think it is nerve pain, feels like a burning type pain on the left hand side. Like you I have had many laps, around 8 or 9 times all have found endo, 2 times said they couldn’t over the space of about 12 years.

Thank you for the advice x

Bless you, I am so sorry to hear you're in pain. I was off work for 5 months as I could barely move. My pain felt like nerve pain, burning and shooting pains down my legs. Does yours feel like it could be nerve pain? My GP started me on amitriptyline and it has given me a new lease of life.

It is in my lower back and left hand side of pelvis. Burning pain on left hand side too. My pelvis feels so heavy. Just horrible. Sorry to hear about your pain too. Think I have tried amitriptyline years ago but willing to give it another try. I think I will have to talk to my gp again. Sending love and hugs. Where abouts is your endo/adeno?

Yes the burning pain. Currently lying in bed with a wheat bag after taking zapain. Not tried amitriptyline, how long did it take to work? How are you feeling now hun? X

I am speaking to my consultant again next week, our initial conversation over the phone wasn't for long as I got a bit emotional. So will find out where it is then. I tried paracetamol and ibuprofen for 5 months, naproxen towards the end of that time but it didn't seem to make much difference.

I reduced my amitriptyline for 2 days over the weekend and did some gentle exercise, but just had excruciating pain for several minutes. Thought I might have had to go to hospital it was so bad. Now I'm lying down with a hot water bottle and it has subsided. God it is exhausting. Guess I'm not ready to reduce my dose!

Hope you are feeling better today. Xx

I presume you take Zapain 2 tablets every 4-6 hours? How much Oramorph is currently prescribed? Then I will reply.

Pregabalin was a big help for me - stopped burning and shooting nerve pain. Had to get the dose right though. I also take ibuprofen (although have taken naproxen until they couldn't find stock a bit ago!). This seems to reduce any inflammation and things start to hurt again if I stop. But i take it whether it hurts or not as i read the anti inflammatory effects build up over time.

On top of codeine and paracetamol things are bearable.

Really hope you find something that helps you. Xxxx

Thank you so much. You are the second person that bad mention pregablin to me I will defo talk to my gp about it thank you.

I found voltarol suppositories absolutely amazing for pain. It's diclofenac. A strong anti inflammatory. I was over prescribed it though and not warned about the damage it can cause and I ended up with kidney issues the nephrologist linked to anti inflammatory meds. I was on them daily for a year though. But occasional use, they are amazing.

Oramorph did little for me until they prescribed me 20mg a dose. With option of 5mg more after 2 hours. Eventually I was prescribed oxycodone at a high dose. I felt it was a miracle drug. I was almost pain free. But after a month or so it would stop working and I'd have a dose increase prescribed. It was very hard to get off. I'd only suggest it as a very very last resort medication.

What treatment have you had for endo so far?

pinkfairydust10 profile image
pinkfairydust10 in reply to

I have felt like I have had all the treatment under the sun! Haha! 8/9 laps, fake menopause 4 times, tramadol used to be my go to and I do remember taking voltarol suppositories about 7 years ago. Was pain free for a while after managing to hey pregnant and have my daughter but all come back so trying to find a treatment that can work for a while. It is all such trial and error.

Sorry to hear kidney probs on top of this horrible disease. Thank you for replying. Sending love and hugs xxxx
