May have endometriosis, mirena coil the only thing offered to help!

I have just come back from the doctors and she said she thinks I could have endometriosis. The treatment option she gave me is the mirena coil apparently that’s what they do now to help calm symptoms. I don’t really want to have the coil. I had a bad experience with the mini pill and this coil also uses the progesterone hormone. I feel a bit pressured now because if I don’t try the only option she has given me, I feel like I can’t go back to her again if symptoms get worse. I don’t know whether to try her treatment and hope it doesn’t do what the mini pill did or whether to just suffer in silence. I have no idea if I do have endometriosis it’s the first I’ve heard about it. But at the same time having period pain almost constantly throughout the month, with irregular periods, amongst other pains like pain after urinating...I just don’t know whether I can cope with it 😔I’m just feeling a little bit helpless and forced in a direction I don’t really want to take but it seems to be the only option now.

Same! Basically told that it is coil or progesterone pill , not even been offered a laroscopy so now I don’t know what to do how are other women getting past this barrier

It's your choice, I got pressured into getting it and I had it in 1 month, they say to give it 6 to settle down but for me that was enough it made my pain worse, in the end I said I want a laperoscopy and they gave me one if there is a next time I will be blunt and just say I want a lap hope you get your answers soon xx

It is completely your choice, so I would advise doing as much research as you can and speaking to women on here so you can inform that decision.

I personally have been on the pill, the injection, the implant, and after my initial gynae appointment last month, I was advised the get the mirena coil too by a BSGE gynaecologist.

I understand this is a very personal decision and you will need to make that yourself, however I have decided to go ahead and book a fitting. I understand the risks and have heard of other people's problems, but nothing impacts my life as much as my symptoms, so I am willing to take that risk in the hope of seeing some improvement.

There's no right answer, however if your symptoms impact your life and stop you from doing things, I'd say it is worth a try! However if you are really unhappy and would rather see a gynae, maybe see another GP at your doctors surgery to try and get a referral, it took me years to be referred to a gynae but after my first appointment with him I was put on the waiting list for a laparoscopy. I intend to have the mirena coil fitted asap to see if it will help in the meantime though!!

Good luck and I hope you get helpful responses!
