How long after surgery and Decapeptyl (Triptorelin) injections for normality

Hello Community,

I have been booked for surgery next month, my last Decapeptyl (Triptorelin) injection is due end of Dec. (This injection induces menopause). My question is how long does the chemical injected last in the body after the last injection and how long should I wait before I start TTC?

My body rejected all forms of contraception and would really like to start TTC as soon as possible. I am 40 next year and not sure I am eligible for IVF.

Thanks

The drug will be out of the body as soon as the last dose has all been metabolised by your liver but the time for periods to start again is variable and can be several months for some. The drug acts on the brain to shut down hormone production (FSH) by the pituitary gland and it can take a while for it to get going again.

Hi there. If you're getting surgery next month I would say that you likely will be advised to not get your injection. I was on it for 5 years but have just had excision surgery and have been told to stay off the injections.

Also are you using hrt along side the injections? This should be stopped at least 4 weeks before surgery so you should be winding that down too.

I was told that decapeptyl would take about 3 months to leave my system.

Hope this helps xx

Ohh, my consultant insisted that I had to have the injections or he would not operate.

Yeah before surgery? Sorry I thought you said your surgery is next month and your injection due after that? I've maybe picked you up wrong sorry lol.

I've Been on it so long I did think it was strange to come off it as I think it's done wonders, but typical surgeon thinks that now I've had the surgery I'm fixed. If only!

I’ve been on it for 4 months now, I have my 5th the surgery then 6th and last injection after surgery. I do not want to be on it for long. Was hoping it takes 1 month to leave the body so I can start TTC immediately. Thanks for your response xx

No problem at all. Seems like we've been given conflicting advice as to what happens after surgery. Isn't so frustrating!lol.

Good luck with your op and future treatment xx
