Shocked is an understatement

Hi all, I posted a little while ago regarding my 'surprise return' after a total hysterectomy. I have since found out that i still have remnants of my ovaries and had to have an MRI scan yesterday and blood tests for ovarian cancer 😱 How on earth can this be? Anyone else been in this situation.

Having the blood test is a good thing, as it can help rule out cancer and I think, it is often done just to make sure things are OK

I had endometrosis and a hystorectomy over 30 years ago. about 5 years ago a back pain CT showed a 'lump' . I was shocked, as I had no overies! They did a blood test and ultrasound, which showed scar tissue. I had to go back 6 months later for a repeat ultrasound and the lump was gone!

I expect they are just being making sure you are OK. Good luck!

Hello

As others have said about ovarian remnant syndrome, and excision of endometriosis. But be aware that the blood test I think they are referring to is CA125 which picks up inflammation markers and endometriosis can elevate theses markers its not just cancer that elevated the markers looked at on this blood test.

Yes it was a CA125 test. Google can be a terrible thing 😕

Yes so it's just an inflammation marker of a certain protein and can't tell them what it is. "because many noncancerous conditions can increase the CA 125 level".

So just keep that in mind and endometriosis is one of the known things can can raise this marker

I really feel for you. The waiting for test results can be so worrying and if you'er like me, you read about the bad stuff and become convinced that its going to be bed news. Try and think of something else. I know its difficult and it won't stop you worrying all the time, but what works for me is doing a mindless activity, at the moment I have one of those adult colouring books. Sounds silly, but it's great just to loose myself for a little time. My husband bought it for me! At the moment I am waiting for the results of heart tests, as I have heart problems and I just need a distraction. I hope you soon get sorted and the news is good.

Not what you're looking for?
