Im new here, im currently waiting for laproscopy and had my pre- asessement yesterday. Just wondering if a mri scan is something most people with possible endometriosis has before then having a laproscopy? Or do they go straight to doing a laproscopy?
Thanks ladies

Hi, I don’t think most NHS trusts offer MRIs as they are very expensive and can miss endometriosis, so laparoscopy tends to be preferred as if endometriosis is found it can also be treated there and then.
I have just been diagnosed with Deep Infiltrating Endo and was told it was only because they specifically suspected DIE that I had to have an mri. I got the impression that if it was not the ‘deep infiltrating’ form of endo then they would have sent me straight for a laparoscopy, I don’t know for sure though.
DIE shows up in an mri whereas I don’t think the standard type of endo does. I went to a private specialist who listened to my symptoms and did an internal exam and felt a lump and from that he seemed to think it was DIE, and as it turns out he was right.
With regards to the symptoms I’m not really sure, I only know my own symptoms, but I think I’m right in saying that DIE can have more bowel involvement and pain (although you can still get this with other endo).
Ok thankyou for your reply, looks like im having the right path of treatment then.
I wasn’t offered a MRI i had a laparoscopy which was able to diagnose my endometriosis. I had countless ultrasounds which showed nothing wrong. Laparoscopy is the most accurate & reliable method to diagnose endometriosis. I have also heard not all MRI will show endometriosis. If in the laparoscopy the surgeon decides it’s too severe or complicated to treat will refer you to an a BSGE registered endometriosis specialist. Good luck with it all xoxo
Thankyou for your reply xx im glad im getting the right plan of action to diagnose my endo. Fingers crossed tgey find something , it will give me answers to all my symptoms and suffering for past 2 years.
You just want answers for the pain & symptoms don’t you. Sometimes it can feel like it’s in your head ( medics attitudes don’t help) of course it’s not.
I’m good thank you. I’m 25 weeks pregnant after a 7 year struggle with 3 laps ( it took nearly 6 years to diagnose endometriosis which affected my fertility)
If you have any questions on laparoscopy feel free to ask me
Thanks jess xxox yea it does start to play on your mind that its all my head and im making it up, because everyone doesnt believe me. No one cares, family more than friends actually!! I cant stop thinking they are gna fibd nothing in the lap like all my tests ans scans have been clear , so wouldnt this be? That's what i keep thinking. Its hard! Congratulations on the pregnancy you must be so happy after all this time, im so happy for you.
