Is this normal?

Hi guys, first post here. I had a laparoscopic endo excision 2 and a half months ago where they also diagnosed me with Adenomyosis and inserted a IUD mirena at the time of the operation. My first period post op lasted 3 weeks and I had pain the whole time. My second post op period was incredibly painful too- but my main question is wondering if anyone else has experienced passing daily clots before and after their periods have finished? I’m getting really upset, because since the surgery, I’ve had to take painkillers nearly every day- if it’s not my period then it’s passing a clot (which never used to happen prior to the IUD/ surgery). It’s incredibly painful. I’m nervous about going to a GP as I only moved to the UK a month ago, and had some horrible experiences with GPs not taking me seriously up until I was diagnosed through laparoscopy. Has anyone else experienced the painful clotting either post surgery, or after an IUD had been inserted? I’ve really had enough of the constant pain and disruption to my life.

Hello there,

So sorry to hear of your experiences. I had my op last September and it sounds almost identical to yours.

In terms of my experience, I bled and still bleed quite regularly with the Mirena coil since it has been inserted, especially the first couple of months. The pain was not as bad as yours, though. I also pass clots after my periods, but this is something that I have always done.

Did you have any treatment done when you had your laparoscopy? It might be that your body is still healing!

However, these symptoms don't sound great for you and I definitely think you should get them looked into! To me, it sounds like the Mirena coil is not agreeing with you, which is sometimes the case. Don't be nervous about going back to the doctors, you've just had an operation so it is important that they make sure everything is going okay.

I have a blog which may benefit you, jadesendojourney.wordpress.com

Most recently, the Mirena wasn't doing what it was meant to, so they've put me on the mini-pill as well to try and completely stop the bleeding! Your bleeding is meant to be reduced with the Mirena, it doesn't sound like it has with you so it needs checking out. You definitely shouldn't be still taking pain killers every day!

Hope you feel better soon, stay strong!
