So I’m having my lap on the 7th November and already the anxiety of having an op is beginning to play up and just on my mind 24/7!!
I hate hate hate the idea of being put to sleep and being all on my own sort of thing. I also have a phobia of committing and I know that can be a side effect of anaesthetic ( I have been under general anaesthetic twice before and touch wood haven’t been sick)
I’m just trying to prepare myself really with what the lead up is on the day , what I should do , if I should ask certain questions etc , as much or as little advice is so so welcome . Thankyou xxx

I had lap on 13th September and I was a bit like you with worry especially if your a needle phobic and I'd never had a general anaesthetic before.
Tell the people who come and see you beforehand how you feel or tell them at pre op if you are having one. If you are working you will need time off make sure you request a sick note for them to get ready for you for when you leave hospital xxx
Hi I have not had mine yet however if you have a phobia of vomiting then ask for an anti sickness tablet prior to surgery the general anaesthetic is nothing to worry about at all, a nurse is usually with you and holding your hand and having a conversation at the same time. It doesn’t take long for you to doze off and it feels nice, you get sleepy all of a sudden and then you are out of it. Next thing you will know is you are waking up. Please don’t worry and tell them that you are nervous. I am sure they have heard it all before, you will be fine and let us know how you get on x
Yes do tell the anaesthetist you have a phobia of vomiting and they can arrange to give you something to prevent it. And just generally communicate your concerns to your surgeon, nurse etc. It will be ok! xx
Hey! I had mine Tuesday and like you I hate the idea of being out to sleep. It created huge anxiety for me and even when it was almost op time I felt like doing a runner lol
But I told them I was nervous, so the nurses and surgeons were so much more chatty with me which relaxed me a lot. I’m naturally a very nervous person so my heart rate was through the roof! I didn’t have it but they may be able to give you something before the op to relax you.
I took my Mum with me aswell and she managed to ask quite a few questions for me that I’d forgotten about because I was too busy being nervous lol so i recommend having someone with you <3
When you wake up you’ll be pretty much back to normal, they offered me tea right away, a sandwich, took me to the toilet and in my my mind I was like THANK GOD that’s over lol xoxo
Thankyou for all your kind words !!! I will make sure to tell the nurses etc that I’m nervous and about my vomiting phobia - things like this I hadn’t even though there would be a way around it so thankyou !!!
Also this probably sounds silly but it’s my first ever experience of something like this... I’ve seen people on this and other forums talking about bowel prep? And about pills to take etc ? Do I have to do this? I haven’t been told I need to buy now I’m panicking . Thankyou xxxx
