I am new to this group and have just been diagnosed with Endometriosis at age 30.
My gyn is looking to perform laparoscopic surgery to remove my 3cm cyst from my right ovary. My question is... Should I have the surgery done straight away or should I wait until I am wanting to get pregnant (about 1 year), my pain is pretty unbearable at times but I am managing to make it to work. I am worried if I have it done now it will just come back around the time I want to try and conceive (if I even can). Is it likely the cyst will become larger and more dangerous over the year?
Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

The endo cells multiply any time you have a period, so the more you have the more you get. So best to get it removed and then use the right type of contraceptives to reduce the chances of more growing. Also, look into diet changes to reduce the chances of more growing.
Thank you for your reply! That's really helpful. I already have an IUD inserted and my diet is quite healthy but I am looking to eliminate diary foods and gluten to see if that helps.
hi. Hope your having a good day. I had 4 cysts removed last year, one ovary was fine and works the other had to be reconstructed but the cyst was the size of a football.as already mentioned its a good idea to try to control through contraception to reduce its growth. I felt so much better having them removed I hadn't realised how unlike myself I was feeling till after the operation. This is a great site for advice and support, my diagnosis was unexpected and it's really helped getting advice from people who are experiencing similar things. Xx
Aww I am so glad you are feeling much better post op. That is really helpful thank you! You are right, I am finding all sorts on this site, it is super helpful xxx
Do you know how your surgeon is planning to remove the cyst? From my understanding and experience, if a woman is hoping to conceive in the future, then a cyst on the ovaries should not be removed. The reason for this is that when they remove the cyst, it can damage the ovarian tissue around the site and this can deplete your ovarian reserve. As I don't have children yet and am TTC, my surgeon only drained my cysts and excised all the other adhesions not related to my ovaries. I was treated at a endo specialist centre so I don't know if a general gynae would know to do this, so do try to find out.
Also, as the others have said, each time you have a period, the endo can grow so your cyst and any other endo will get worse. I would suggest that if you don't want to get pregnant yet, then definitely ask your gynae for something to control the endo until you are ready to conceive. X X
Thank you for your advice that is good to know as you have been to an endo specialist. My surgeon is quite unhelpful to be honest. I am waiting for my insurance approval to come through for the surgery as I have been living abroad for the past 10 months, when that comes through hopefully I will be able to get some more information from the surgeon. I also read that removing the cyst damages ovarian tissues I am back in the UK over the summer so I am going to book in with a specialist to get a second opinion as I feel so unsure being abroad. Thanks again, I wish you all of the luck on your journey to conceive xxx
