Found out I have gallstones apparently it's common with ladies who have excess estrogen, on contraception or hrt. I'm on hrt.
Has anyone had their gallbladder out? What's it like and any probs afterwards?

I had my gallbladder removed when I was 20, was admitted before my scheduled surgery as I had a stone blocking my bile duct which made me extremely poorly. I was in hospital for 2 weeks, but I was told I had a very unusual large amount of gallstones and this was really uncommon. However once I was well enough for surgery to remove my gallbladder I felt so much better and had no complications during or after the operation. Hope this helps x
Thanks so much lizzy, sorry to hear it made you so poorly it's horrible isn't it. Great to hear you are fine with it now though that helps put my mind at rest xx
Hi, I had my gallbladder out about 4 years ago. I had it done through a laparoscopy and only stayed in one night. I do find that I can not eat certain foods now- the main one being fish and chips much to my OH annoyance! Once you have your gall bladder removed your body can not store bile which is the key thing that breaks down fats so I do advise cutting down n fatty food as much as possible, especially at the start. Alcohol can also leave you with an upset tummy as your body can not process that as efficiently either without the gallbladder. I did get an inaction in one of the incision sites (the belly button one) so my recovery took a bit longer but three weeks after surgery I managed a 3 solo three hour drive without any bother.
Thankyou so much for replying. I guessed fats might be an issue what happens is it pain or upset tummy? Xx
