I had my consultant appointment in March and they referred me for a lapo and haven't heard anything so rang the hospital today who said i won't be given a date until October and then it can be a 4-8 week wait after that. Has anyone had a similar experience? Or is this not normal? Thank you!

Laparoscopy wait
Oh god that’s ages!! I seen my gyny the other day and he’s referring me for another lap but didn’t say how long the wait was! What area are you in? Xx
It's my first lap and my first surgery so I'm really nervous about it! I thought it sounded like a long time, but just wondering if there is anything I can do about it. I'm in east Yorkshire area x
I’m in Liverpool I’ve had a look on google and it says it should be maximum 18 weeks from either the date you booked it through the nhs referral service or from when your hospital received your referral. But tbh I waited a long time for my first so not sure if you ring them and ask to go onto cancellation list you might get it abit quicker xx
When your consultant referred you for a lap did they not say how long the wait would be? I was told at my appointment what the waiting time was x
She didn't say anything I think I'll ring tomorrow and ask if I can go on the cancellation list. X
I've been waiting 11 months now for a lap. When I was put on the waiting list I was told 8 to 11 months wait.
I also got put on the waiting list in march and was told 7-12 months 👎 So long!
It took nearly two years from the point I was told I would get a lap, to the day I actually got it done. Waiting lists are shocking here in NI.
Hope you receive word soon.x
Hi hun.
I have a similar situation; I was referred to an endometriosis specialist( had 2 laps and endo is all over my rectum area) and have been put on a waiting list for a lap in April ; I phoned to see about waiting times and have been told it’s 30/35 weeks from when I was referred to my specialist. It does seem crazy long. It’s awful when you are in much pain ☹️ I have asked to go one a cancellation list; maybe you can ask to be put on one? I
I’m sorry your wait is so long too. It should be 18 weeks from referral but I guess in many hospitals that does not happen ☹️ xoxo
Depends how they have done it, I think, whether it is routine, diagnostic or to solve a problem they know is there.
I was seen by a useless colorectal guy who was dismissive of a regrowth of adhesions to my bowel (misdiagnosed by first general gynae who missed endo). He put me on his list in March for a routine lap as he thought I was hysterical. I eventually got a call for a lap on December 23rd. In the meantime endo had been suggested, I discovered this board and got to a BSGE Centre. Had my first specialist appointment in July/August and there and then he booked me in for a mid Nov lap, scans and Prostap before hand. Saw him again after scans and he said all go for November. Gave me great pleasure to tell the colo-rectal team I was already 5 weeks into recovery with someone else!
My gynae reffered me for a lap on 17th feb. I had my pre-op on April 4th. My operation was a week ago today (8th of may)
So the full process took 11 weeks.
I am in Scotland. X
Thank you so much for all your help everyone! I'm going to ring today about going on the waiting list and cross my fingers 🤞
For my diagnostic lap I was referred in October and was told a 8-12 month wait but then my pain got so bad I was emergency referred and had it last day of feb. I’m in north east wales area x
My wait was 12 weeks, which was apparently normal where I live (Scotland). I remember being horrified I would have 3 more periods to survive before I got any help. 4-8 weeks doesn't sound too bad to me. Make sure someone is with you when u come around, to remember what surgeon tells you, cos there may be another wait before the follow up consultation. Good luck! x
Mine was before NICE updated their guidelines to encourage GPs to refer patients for lap. I was told waiting lists were bound to increase because resources weren't adapted to accommodate all the newly reported cases.
I had my appointment in May 2017 and was told a 3 month wait, In late September I was finally given a operation date in November 2017 and then had a few operation cancellations until I finally got my operation in January 2018. For me it was worth the wait, however if your pain gets worse go and see your GP and get them to review and change your pain medication. If you are able to go at short notice then ask to be put on the cancellation list so if anyone cancels they will call people who are on the list to be fill the empty slot, my first lap with endo removal was brought forward by a month due to being on the cancellation list.
Hope this helps
