Fatigue after laparoscopy

Hi has anyone experienced fatigue after their laparoscopy procedures?

I had my first lap last Friday and have felt pretty much wiped out since. I did a food shop yesterday with my husband and it floored me. Is this normal?

I’m due back at work next week and wondered how long everyone’s recovery took?

Hi

Hope you are ok, with the exception of the fatigue! Yes it is pretty normal to be honest! I was the same. I ended up off work for 5 weeks, just went back this week, and I am still exhausted! Although I do suffer fatigue anyway, it feels worse! I could sleep 12 hours and get up and feel as if I have not been in bed. My advice would be if you need to sleep, just do it, when you are sleeping your body is healing xx

Thank you for this, I thought I was being exceptionally lazy. I can’t believe how tired I have been.

I’ve struggled with tiredness with the endo but not really felt the shattered type fatigued like yesterday.

Good luck going back to work!

Thank you it’s been pretty tough going back, but have reduced my hours for the time being

Take care xx

Hey xx it takes a good three months to heal inside after a lap and it's very normal to be super tired during this time. This article explains the healing process

Eat for healing, drink lots of water and rest up and be gentle with yourself xx

Nutrition can help support healing, among others vitamins a, c, d and zinc are important as well as protein and omega 3. There is a helpful table in this pdf.

Thanks so much for this!

I’ll have a read of these articles, I’m really thankful.

I have been reading a lot about herbal remedies and essential oils too. Clary sage apparently very good for symptomatic endo.

Thanks again

Yup! I've been sleeping lots and napping. I'm almost three weeks post lap and feel so lazy! I had a lot removed so my surgeon has recommended six weeks off work, which I sort of scoffed at but went for a walk round town Saturday and still feeling tired from it on Monday! But rest up for the time you have off, did they remove growth during your op? It just takes a while I think. Sending get well vibes!

Think there's a lot of healing going on behind the scenes! Hope you feel better soon, don't go back to work until you are ready.

Best of luck x

I had terrible fatigue for about 5ish weeks after my lap. I was off work for 6 weeks, although had it not been for me catching chicken pox I would probably have went back in after 4. I was in total shock though when I came back and couldn’t have my afternoon naps 😂 I nearly cried that first day when I realised x
