Mirena removal experience

I'm due to have my Mirena removed next Friday, it was inserted during a lap so I knew nothing of the insertion :) I've heard that removal isn't too bad but wondered about other ladies' experience of the removal. Is it painful? Any tips? My endo feels quite bad at the moment so I'm sore and a bit concerned about it xxx

I barely felt it. A smear test is worse.

Try not to worry. x.

Takes seconds to remove and was fine felt a smear test more. I was nervous too but it's ok.

Removal is easy! I had mine put in during a lap and six months later I asked the gp to take it out. Didn't feel a thing. Best thing I ever did. Be prepared for a bad period and a hormone crash tho. I felt so down for a week or so but after that I felt so much better. X

I hadn't mine out at eh end of November. It was fine and straight forward, just a speculum and a gentle tug. I got very mild period type pain but that was it .

Good luck you will be fine x

It might depend on whether you have had a baby, or not ... or the reasons for it being implanted under anaesthetic in the first place (unless it was just when they were doing a lap?). Mine was inserted under anaesthetic, as I had not had children (and was in my 50s), plus my gynae felt my cervix was too narrow. However, after 5+ years and post-menopause, my GP took it out last year, and it was okay - even funny. It was more a of struggle than she had expected, as my uterus is tilted, but we had discussed it all and felt it worth trying, as the wait to have it out at a hospital was getting ridiculous. My GP just made sure she did it when a nurse was on hand, in case I fainted - not from pain I hasten to add, but just because that is what can happen when the cervix is messed with! [Maybe that's the real reason heroines swoon in old historical novels!!??]

It was not painful, but it might depend on your particular circumstances.

I had mine removed pretty shortly (a few months) after it was put in so apparently it was a bit tricky to get it out, and it had to come out with a yank and a cough from me, which was a bit uncomfortable but it was over in seconds, like a plaster coming off. As soon as it was out i felt better and it was a huge relief. Im sure it will be fine, and a relief for you too x
