Hi there,

I have my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy booked on a Thursday in a few weeks and am back at work the following Wednesday. Will that be enough recovery time?

Am so nervous about it and really hope there's not even more pain afterwards.

In my experience that is unlikely to be enough recovery time unless your lap is purely diagnostic and nothing is done. Is that the plan for your surgery? If you have endometriosis you would usually also have endo excised during the same surgery. Are you being treated at a BSGE centre? X

Thanks so much for replying Janine. I am not being treated at a BSGE centre unfortunately. It is diagnostic as I have symptoms of Endo but nothing has appeared on my scans. Get a lot of pain on my right side and incredibly heavy monthlies. X

I've never had a purely diagnostic lap because excision was carried out during both of mine but I would be surprised if you felt sufficiently recovered to go back to work after less than a week - hopefully ladies who have had diagnostic laps will be able to give some advice. After my laps I was signed off work for 3 weeks. X

It really depends, but I have to agree with the others and say probably not. I had a diagnostic lap back in January and unfortunately had a massive internal bleed after the surgery. It was a good couple of months before I really recovered from it and they didn't even touch the endo :/

If you work is mainly light desk job then a week of probably is enough. Maybe start with3 days a week then go back to full time?

Thank you so so much ladies for replying. Am so grateful we have this forum.

My work is desk based and I might be able to work from home a few days a week.

I am so sorry to hear about the internal bleed Jo. How are you feeling now?

Hey, I think you should be ok. I had the same procedure last year and the recovery time is pretty quick. I did have two weeks off work but I was back at the gym by the end of the second week. I was out for dinner with family after the 3rd day! I was in and out of hospital the same day, the consultant did an amazing job with the surgery which helped my recovery. I didn't need the full two weeks off work and could have gone back sooner. I just got tired easily so when you do go back maybe nap at lunch time or go to bed when you get home.

If it's diagnostic only, I think a week will be fine. I had mine on a Thursday and went back Monday to my office job, although probably could've done with extra day or 2.

However, if they find and remove endo, you will need 2 weeks at least. I had 2 & half weeks after my 2nd lap surgery as it was to remove endo xx
