I can’t believe after 12 long years I’m finally getting a diagnostic lap + treatment to endo. I feel so happy and finally listened to.
im just wondering if anybody can shed light on recovery time for this? I’m pretty geared up on the hospital it’s just the post discharge care. How soon can I packet to return to work?
also bonus if anybody has quite a manual job. I’m on my feet all day and work 13 hour shifts so would it be wise to take longer off?
Thank you

Hi I had a diagnostic laparoscopy and felt better after 1 week, I wasn’t going back to work so I had lots of recovery time but after it I felt like a new person for around 12 months. Hope it goes well for you 💛
I'm glad you've posted this, I'm a gardener and have no idea how long it might take to go back to normal after surgery as a lot of the info I read is people who work from home!
Hey as you know you will be sore for a bit but take your time going back i went back after 2 weeks but it was to soon in hindsight rest when you need to and keep hydrated and moving be kind to yourself and good luck
hi, when I was told I would need surgery and was discussing with my surgeon he had said 4-6 weeks off - I’m having my appendix out and then it cut off the other areas I have it for reference.
Hi! When I went for my diagnostic lap nearly 7 years ago I was off for 6 weeks. All they did was drain a large chocolate cyst. However, they hit my bladder on the way out which meant I had to wear a catheter for 2 weeks. I reckon I would have been back after 4 weeks or less if this had not happened. If they are removing endo you most likely will need time to recover. I would reckon at least 6 weeks minimum, unless there are complications. Definitely ask for reasonable adjustments on your return to work.
hun I had diagonostic last year in April unfortunately I acquired sepsis about five days after surgery so had about a month off as they had done a cystectomy and then left my insides to treat at a later date with colerectal surgeon which I excsion surgery last Monday . I’m a hca and. Do quite long shifts as well and it’s physical so moving hoists beds ext and people this time they have given me a month but going to have a few more weeks off and then do a phase return on reduced hours as I found it really tiring x
I was back to online work after 1 week and then physical work after 2 weeks. Since your job is physical, I'd request at least 2 weeks and then just add on more if you need it when the time comes. At the end of the day, you need as much time as you need.
Hey, it's really hard to say as everyone is different. I was off work for 3 mths in the end but was initially told 2 weeks. I think if you have more removed= longer recovery. I had it on my uterosacrel ligaments which I think is why it took so long. I gave a desk job but as I couldn't sit for extended periods meant I couldn't return quickly. Best of luck with surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery x
I had surgery in March of this year, they did quite a lot to remove the adhesions, endometrioma and save my ovary. I was signed off for 6 weeks. Didn't start doing anything until 2 weeks (pretty much stuck in bed). Then when I went back to work I came back on phased return. I already had reasonable adjustments in place prior to my op but I also had a review appt with occupational health when I came back.
Everyone's recovery is different and is also impacted by how much work was done during the surgery.
I work on the wards at a hospital in a therapy role. Not as demanding as HCA roles and I don't work 12+hr shifts but is demanding enough!
