How long does internal recovery take after laparoscopy?

Hi everyone, I had a lap 4 weeks ago. Some days I feel fine other days I have bad lower abdominal pain and pelvic pain in the mornings and also in my sides and I feel like I can’t stand up straight. Have to take nurofen some mornings.

I used to experience this a while before my laproscopy too. Then it went away on it’s own for about a month or so and now it seems to have returned.

I just wondered if the pain could still be due to irritation from all the poking and prodding done during the lap? I’m doubting it as it’s been 4 weeks and I would have thought that would be enough for my insides to heal?

I didn’t have any excision done as they didn’t find any endo. They just had a look and removed an Omental adhesion to my abdominal wall.

Hi!

Everyone's healing is individual to them. Whilst my Laps (3) were a long time ago I remember soreness and pain for 7/10 days I did go back to work but should have stayed off longer. I was given a progesterone tab and once it got into my system did start to feel better. Wait and see what others say but if you feel there is something wrong go back to your GP. BTW we're you given any meds?

Yeah the first week I was given pain meds but that was mainly for the gas pain. After that went I was fine and didn’t feel like I needed them.

Yes, the gas pain is awful, was pleased when that passed🤭 oops! Did you not receive any meds to keep the Endo pain dampened down?

The gas pain was the worst thing! Ended up in a&e as well because I hadn’t been toilet for a week! But that was a while ago now. And Well they said I don’t have any endo so I didn’t get anything for that, they basically just sent me on my way and said everything looks fine. It was an endo specialist too, a Nancy book surgeon 🤷🏽‍♀️ I used to be on the pill when they suspected it but honestly it just wasn’t for me.

In that case suggest you go back to your GP as you know your own body and if you feel that something is not right then it may not be always best to check

Hey! I had my laparoscopy just over 2 months ago, a lot was removed and I’m still getting a few aches and pains. GP said this is extremely normal, internal healing can take a long time. I saw another post of here saying sometimes can take 6 months In all to be complete healed internally. Everyone’s timeS are different with recovery, none the same so it’s hard to know what’s ‘normal’.

Especially if you’re having periods as the areas where things have been removed are still moving around and working. Easier said than done but try not to over think it 😊 you’ve got this! Always give you GP a call if you’re getting concerned. Wishing you a pain free recovery ASAP!

Yeah I’m just finishing up on my period atm, it’s just strange because my periods I usually black out from bad pain etc but it wasn’t so bad this time.

It’s just my usual morning pain seems to be really bad again which is the same as what I experienced before the lap!

I didn’t have anything removed from my ovaries or pelvic area either so I don’t really know what’s going on & why it hurts again 😖

So sorry you’re still in the same pain. If you’re worried I’d give the doctors a call, I did the same, had a check up and it was so reassuring, I think me worrying made the pains worse. My muscles were apparently SO tight too in my back, legs and pelvic area which was causing me pain.

It’s such an invasive op, even if it’s just to have a look around, so its going to take time for things to calm down. Plus our bodies are all different. I really don’t know why it says a few weeks recovery in info were given... I haven’t heard or seen many people say it’s that quick!

Really hoping you get some relief and the pain eases up soon 💓

I had pain around 4 weeks after operation and it turned out my bowel was totally blocked . Had a stomach X-ray which showed this & then took movicol for 2 weeks and that cleared the problem. Apparently it’s quite common.

Oh sorry to hear that, sounds awful! I don’t think that’s the case with me though as I’m able to go toilet so it must be something else :(

Oh that’s interesting, How did they find out you had a blockage? I wonder if that’s the case with me
