This is kind of irrelevant I guess as I'm paying to have private surgery done with endometriosis expert in a few weeks but thought I'd mention it anyway. The statement below concerns my experiences I've had with general gynaecology before i saw the endo clinic guy.
Today I had a phone call from local hospital saying I could have my diagnostic laparoscopy done on August 2nd. This diagnostic lap was to be done by the general gynae I saw in february this year. So a 6 month waiting list just for a diagnostic lap. And I wouldn't trust that particular gynae to go anywhere near me. She was the one who told me there's no point removing endo as it only comes back and that IBS has nothing to do with endo. And that endo of the bladder would show up on cystoscopy. However the my endo specialist suspects I have bowel and bladder involvement. Ha.
So my timeline for treatment if i hadnt seen endo specialist would have been this:
Summer 2015 - symptoms get much worse, back pain, bladder etc. See GP's. Have ultrasound. Shows nothing
October 2015 - GP suspects endometriosis. Refers me to general gynaecologist, informs me waiting list is 6 months for a general gynae. During this time i have cytsoscopy done too which surprise surprise shows nothing.
November 2015 - Pay to see private gynaecologist. Tells me I need pelvic physiotherapy and i probably have a bit of endo and tells me to keep taking the pill back to back.
February 2016 - Referred back to NHS gynae who organises the physiotherapy on the NHS and refers me to bladder clinic. Initially refuses to do diagnostic lap until I break down in tears and she relents.
April 2016 - Bladder clinic nurse is lovely. tells me to drink less caffeine and drink lots more water t help with frequent urination symptoms.
June 2016 - receive phone call saying I can have diagnostic lap in August with the horrible rude, utterly clueless gynaecologist. I decline.
I'm not whinging about myself, please don't think I am. I'm lucky my mum is paying for my op privately. And I know a lot of women have to wait an awful lot longer. I've only been ill in total for about 3 years. But even so this is absolutely ridiculous. To go from my GP suspecting endo in September to finally being offered a diagnostic lap almost a year later is insane.
So if anyone in South Wales is wondering about waiting times...there it is.
