10 weeks post lap and still in pain

Hi all,

This is my first time posting, but the forum has been hugely helpful to me, as I have only just been diagnosed with endo (20th Feb) after a lap. It was found in pouch of douglas, utero-sacral liagments, peritoneal wall, along with lots of adhesions. It was much worse than had been expected and had clearly been there for many years. I started having symptoms about 18 years ago, but was brushed off repeatedly by doctors.

I wanted to ask about other people's experiences with post lap pain. I am now 10 weeks post lap and I am still in pain everyday. I have lower back pain, which goes through my hips and down my legs. This is often accompanied by intermittent abdominal cramps / stabbing pains, particularly on the left side.  Standard over the counter painkillers only take the edge off the pain and so far I haven't been offered anything further. I have an appointment to see my doc next week, so I'm hoping to be offered something more long term. I think the hardest thing about all of this is the fact that I'm heavily restricted on how much I can walk, sit or do anything and it has affected my work, as I can't do all of my duties (I'm a teacher).

Have others experienced this kind of pain? Could it still be that I'm recovering from the surgery? My gyne said 8 weeks was the expected recovery time. Or could it be muscle damage from the surgery? I really don't know what to think!

All thoughts much appreciated.

x

Hi,  I was seen by a bsge consultant privately. It was the only way to get past the gps telling me I was mad!

That good that you gave seen a specialist, did he excise all endo found, like you said it is a big op and your body will need time to recover fully, if your still experiencing pain after 12 weeks go back to specialist, rest well, and good luck

I had my lap in December and still in loads of pain. I also did this privately and they lasered off my endo. I've been in pain ever since, I now have suspected intestinal cysistitis, vulvadynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, nerve damage and Endo! Personally I believe they never got rid of the endo and now waiting to see a BSGE centre in June to hopefully get all these problems sorted! I've lost my job, I can't do anything because of the pain. It's getting worse by the day.

Thank you so much for your replies. It really helps to hear about other people's experiences. I'm really sorry to hear about all of the pain and problems you are experiencing Joanna. I truly hope that the BSGE centre can help you. My thoughts are with you. At the moment I am just hoping that I'm a slow healer and in a couple of months I'll start to feel better.
