Hi ladies,

I am 19 and suffer from endo. I was just wondering what contraceptive people would suggest. I'm currently on qlaira but it's not agreeing with my body. I have tried to have the mirena fitted but there were complications so can anyone suggest anything else

Hello

I'm on a progesterone only pill called cerazette it took a good 6 months plus to start working properly but it's great no it supressed ovulation and I don't bleed at all. I was on the cheaper version of this pill in the beginning called cerelle and I would not recommend this as I had constant break through bleeding and pain. I think in the beginning with any progesterone only pill it's common to have breakthrough bleeding but this was contrast for month so I asked for the more expensive version of it. I told myself is give it a year and in glad it did. Good luck and I hope you find something that works you x

Hi Ren

I'm having a problem with Qlaira also. I've been taking it for 7 weeks and getting bad migraines again. If I take anything with oestrogen this seems to be what happens. Also having nosebleeds every morning and restless leg syndrome is back. I rang my consultant yesterday and left a message with his secretary. She thinks he will send me a pescription for Visanne as this was the other drug we discussed last time I saw him. It is really trial and error unfortunately as we are all so different. Keep positive as much as you can our emotional well being is so important to how Endometriosis affects us.

Let us know how you get on.

Big hugs

Jen xx

Hi there,

Im on Yasmin, the combined pill, back to back. Most combined pills can be run together, so once you end one pill you just start the next pack and carry on. I stay on it all the time, and I tend to get breakthrough bleeding every 6 months or so, so this is when I 'take a break', have a period, and then start them again. This helps me tons as it means I don't get periods much at all, and although, for me, they are still just as bad as ever, at least I don't have them every month, as well as having medication to combat the pain. Running the pill back to back like this is recommended quite a lot as it with a many people you don't get any periods at all.

I would talk to your GP about which pill, as some have placebo pills for the last 7 days to make you have a period, and these will not help if running back to back, but also, as I don't know your medical history, they can advise you on what best to take.

The injection, (depot) was recommended to me when I went to my local GUM clinic, and this can greatly reduce your periods.

Hope this helps, Merry Christmas

Hi, I am 27 and have suffered really bad reactions to all contraceptive pills over the years trying to keep endo in check. Go ahead and try other pills but if you are just sensitive to the hormones like me, I would recommend the nuva ring (nuvaring.com/consumer/). I was only told about it this year and although I still have some side effects it is so much better than any of the contraceptive pills I was on. The doctor who recommended it said that because the hormones are released locally, you need less of them, like with the mirena coil. The great thing about it is that it is a lot less invasive than the coil (less than a tampon) and you can take it out anytime yourself if it doesn't agree with you.

Hope that helps!
