New here and need advice!

Hey, so I know I have a family history of diabetes (grandparents on fathers side, and grandfather on mothers side) but my immediate family has no issues.

I have yearly blood tests to check thyroid hormones, kidney function, liver function, white blood count and cholesterol levels - all family issues. These for years have all come back fine until a year ago, when my HBA1C came back at 43, it's repeated a year later (just a week ago) and it's 46. I eat healthy due to my endometriosis, and knowing there's family health issues, I regularly exercise - self defense, HIIT, kickboxing and pole fitness (basically bodyweight training vertically!), so I'm concerned about this result.

During this year I've had a operation for an existing condition, a pulled shoulder muscle and a dislocated knee cap, all have meant considerable time not exercising, which I hate; I'm not a patient person!

I do measure my blood sugar, always had a kit so I can keep an eye on levels. Before food its around 4.6 to 5.8. An hour and a half after food it's about 6.2 to 8.9. The highest it's ever been was when I randomly measured it during an evening in with friends (with drinks and snack) at 12.6, that scared me but that's once every few months.

I do take ibuprofen as advised by my doctor for managing my endometriosis pain, which I know affects the kidneys; I'm looking into that with further kidney tests. The first one the doctor just told me "your kidneys are working a little harder" which isn't helpful. Hmmph.

I've had my BMI done, and although the nurse placed me in obese, my personal trainer and sports therapist has said BMI isn't accurate as I'm training and active so I do have a lot of muscle. I know I still have a little fat to shift - I'm more into the being healthy and feeling fitter, being able to do more, be more flexible. I do a lot of training so I need to have a lot of protein and the quantities of fat and carbs are fixed - I use protein shakes to supplement (low carb and low fat ones) and BCAA (no sugar) drinks for after sports. I find if I reduce my carbs generally I get really dizzy during my sports; measured my blood sugar at that time and it was 2.6.

So, what is going on? My doc says it's pre diabetes and gave me a diabetes leaflet, plus appointment at a diabetes clinic. I already do the stuff it says in the leaflet, I could reduce carbs more but mine are already complex carbs and if I reduce them any more I get light headed. I don't use energy supplements / drinks during exercise as I don't like the sugar / caffeine rush.Could it be related to the kidneys working harder?

I've read drinking more water generally can affect the HBA1C readings? I may not be drinking enough for the type of exercise I do / protein intake - usually I drink about 1.5 litres of just water (I do have a protein shake and herbal teas in addition to that).

Any help appreciated x
