I am new here but realise there are some outstanding, wonderfully kind people here, my friend has just started the LCHF diet and got sent a video arguing the other way and is now confused. What is your experience?

Not all diabetics are the same, so a person has to be careful when starting a new type of diet. What did your friend's doctor say about the LCHF diet? Does the doctor agree that your friend can do the diet?

She has been given some options and one was LCHF as she was eating lots of carbs, going to gym and not putting on that much weight but was exhausted. She likes her wine and was annoyed she may have to go dry for awhile.

Is she type 1 or 2?

She's type 2 now but warned metformin etc not far away if she struggles to control it.

I am a lean type

Not obese

But LCHF is helping me control blood sugar well

Irrespective of personal views as well as some vested interest reports LCHF works well for many who are practicing

Not only control but also overall alertness and concentration have improved drastically

So while this fight goes on many are actually benefiting

lchf will lead to disastrous consequences in the long run

in reply to

Again a personal view

We have seen disastrous consequences of your favorite ADA diet.

It's seen daily. So many people getting complications

Just stop posting personal view and opinions

in reply to

A view expressed against a particular diet need not necessarily be taken as ADA diet . Any diet which takes the best of both ideas could be followed .The criticism is against the concept , but not against the people. The objection in any diet is ------going to the extremes to the detriment of overall health .

in reply to

How can a view expressed by some becomes science , when another view by another person becomes opinion . Any haphazard view or report of any person does not become science even if experimented and found to be working in some cases .There could be different view points .

in reply to

Does your friend have any report against lchf.?

You better think before you argue for him

You can Google anything and find opposing views. That's the problem when we use the Internet for our medical needs.

much water has flown under the bridge . Now WE have to wait and see where the water is destined to go and how it is going to affect the people .

Personal ex periences can't be quoted on line .

This is outdated theory

LCHF is a diet that suits some but not others, you have to go by what your GP advises. I'm T2 on metformin and in control, I eat lower carb, but fat wise I err on the lower fat side with some high fat foods. The reason for this is that I have some gastric problems that are exacerbated by eating high fat foods. Today I have had cheese on toast for my lunch but already I can feel my tummy being affected. It didn't stop me having it as a treat but I can't regularly eat high fat.

People find a diet that suits them and as long as its a healthy diet nobody should make another person feel bad for following it. All food is good for us in moderation and we should aim to eat less processed foods and cook from scratch with fresh food.

If LCHF works for you that's brilliant, for most diabetics just reducing their carb intake will help keep numbers in check and carb counting can really help. I don't always hit my target but I am for 150g of carbs a day (50g per meal) and 45g per day for treats or snacks if they are needed. Never professed to be the best diabetic in the world but never stop striving to be by being careful with what I eat and exercising I am managing to keep my levels in the normal range :)

Fantastic real world answers so when you say 50g of carb how do measure it or what is good guess when not at home?

Thanks again :-)

If I'm out, I try to swap out carbs, for instance, if I'm in a restaurant I cut out potatoes, bread and pasta or rice if I fancy a dessert (usually share one with my OH if I really want one). Although, having said that, I quite often just don't eat the carbs and ask for more green veg. I have the Carbs & Cals app on my phone so can get a rough idea if I'm being really good. After awhile you just get used to guessing it all and being quite close. The odd day going over doesn't hurt :)

What's the app that you're using, ceejayblue ? Can it be used on IPhones?

in reply toActivity2004

Thanks Anup

Really solid sensible advice and understanding we are all human, need some flexibility and cheat days. Lol

The whole point is heading in the right direction away from diabetes instead of full long rush into more complications and disappointment has to be better.

Live well and prosper!

I have been T1 diabetic ALL my life from the age of 3 (more than 51 years). CARBS do the DAMAGE. If you run Marathons you need carbs but if you sit still all day you DONT. Good luck

Ultimately what we require is Glucose; it is required always - running, sitting or sleeping. CARB is an easy and common source.

Now you are talking about Glucose George ! Are you T2 ? I use Glucose to bring me back from being HYPO. The use of Glucose can greatly affect people in a bad way. As said if you run a Marathon you need carbs ,if you sit still all day you do not.

Not what you're looking for?
