Good evening to all!

My name is Surendra Shukla and I am 31 years old, my height is 5'6, and my weight is 83 kg, earlier it was 88 kg but i have reduced 5 kg in last 25 days, somewhere around a month back when I was suffering from UTI infection and I was on antibiotics, i went for my hba1c test and my result came as 5.9, so basis on this report I am a prediabetic as per the guidelines but as we all know that hba1c shows our last 3 months blood sugar level in our body.

I used to drink 1 quarter whisky every night since last 3 to 4 months and I used to have rice in my dinner most of the time.

I also went for my ogtt test. results are as below.

Fasting 86.5

After having 75 gm of glucose!

After 1 hour - 158 ( 1st reading came as 189 i asked the lab technician to repeat the test with same sample, he did the same and second reading came as 158)

After 2 hours - 134 ( 1st reading came as 114 after putting it on repeat it came as 134)

After 3 hours - 109

One gentle from this forum suggested me to go for fasting insulin serum test & fasting blood sugar test, I did the same, results are as below.

Fasting insulin serum - 11

Fasting blood sugar - 105

Since i got my hba1c test report, I have completely cut down myself on rice & sugary things, even earlier I never used to drink tea or coffee.

I started going for a walk in the evening 5 km in a day & I do yoga in morning, I am doing yoga since last 4 to 5 years, about 15 to 20 minutes everyday in the morning.

After these tests i am taking my reading on gluco meter after every alternate day.

Readings are as below.

20th may 2018 fasting blood sugar - 77

22nd may 2018 fasting blood sugar -66

25th may 2018 fasting blood sugar- 81

28th may 2018 fasting blood sugar - 67

29th may 2018 fasting blood sugar- 94

Today I had my lunch first then I ate 100gm of sweet and after two hours I checked my blood sugar level it was 99 then after 2 to 3 minutes later i took a blood sample from my different finger and then reading came as 70.

A week back my pp was 71 ( i took the sample after 3 to 4 hours of my lunch)

Another day I did a random check and it was 120!

So my question is that if you are taking alcohol every single night and u are taking rice most of the time in your dinner, u also have some urine infection and u are on antibiotics too, so can't it increase your hba1c count?

I have no diabetic history in my family!

So I don't think so that I am a prediabetic what is your opinion on this!

I will be looking forward to your reply.

Each and every answer will be highly appreciated.

From the data,it is clear that diabetes is not a problem for you. But,you are overweight by several kilos.Plan for reducing weight gradually to safe BMI level. You can know about calculating BMI from the net.The other problem i.e UTI can only be addressed by a specialist doctor. If you have given up drinking ,it is well and good and shows that you have willpower.

Firstly, stop thinking about your health condition or thinking that your prediabetic.

Yes your weight is more but that's not so serious problem. Not all bodies are alike.

If you want be health conscious, maintain good nutrition with good eating habits. Stay active by morning walks or running. I suggest running. Stay stress free . This is all you need. You will certainly live longer.

All the best.

Does your doctor know that you’re drinking items with alcohol in them? Alcoholic drinks can mimic lows and highs for Diabetics.

Just reduce the weight, everything will be all right.

Convert your height into cms. Then the last two digits will be the right weight for you.

You should never eat any fried item all your life.

You should maintain the right weight suggested by means of above calculation.

I have been controlling my Diabeties properly for the last 40 years. And am hale and hearty at 70. Your readings are absolutely NORMAL. Just stop worrying. There nothing wrong with you. As long as your blood sugar readings are LESS THAN 180 you are fine. No medicines be taken. Just keep smiling, be happy & enjoy, including your drinks. 👍✔️✅

Fasting below 70 to 90 and ppbs up to 150 are not diabetic ranges . In case of diabetic Ppbs up to 180 to 190 is also allowable Limit . The way you are going you would end up with real diabetic ranges with your unlimited worry .

The ranges are getting reduced day by day with some motive which is surprising . May be it is a move to alert people to be extra careful .Not only in sugar ranges , we can see that in the ranges of thyroid , in weight , in blood pressure , in cholesterol ,even in depression Everybody has some sort of depression when the things go out of their expectation . Only if it goes beyond reasonable level psychiatric help has to be sought . But now a days since medical facilities are extensively available and awareness has increased thanks to the media , people go to the doctor at the first opportunity and they are prescribing medicines left and right . Many times the indiscriminate prescriptions are doing great damage .

Thanks for your reply sir, I don't have thyroid problem, my blood pressure is in normal range.

It is a general statement made out of my observation and all people need not have the said health issues .

If your hba1c is below 6 then you are not diabetic Repeat same test every 3 months for another 9 months ( 3 tests) and if all tests show hba1c below 6 then take it from me that you are not diabetic. Good luck. 👍

Thanks for your reply sir, will do the same as you said, I know that I am not a diabetic, I just wanted to know that whether i am a prediabetic or i am in a normal range.

Mr. Surendra,

yr readings do not show any diabetes - only if yr fasting blood sugar is above 110, then u r on the borderline of becoming diabetic, but still pls contact some diabetologist, who is the correct judge in yr case.

if your 2 consecutive tests show prediabetic then you are .. if next hba1c test shows no improvement you need to be concerned otherwise all is well

Environmental and physiological stresses cause insulin resistance . Insulin resistance causes type2 diabetes , cardiovascular disease , hypertension , polycystic ovary syndrome , Nafld , sleep apnoea and even certain forms of cancer , In rare cases it causes renal failure , hypothyroidism ,cirrhosis also , In some cases insulin resistance is due to production of counter regulatory hormones . Due to the changes in physical activity , dietary imbalance , work schedules , socialisation and sleep patterns insulin resistance could take place . As large money is involved in the insulin and diabetic drugs pharma companies are not trying to find out the causes for insulin resistance . Present measures are faulty and search for other alternatives in treating this phenomenon should take place. Insulin does not regulate fasting blood sugar . Pituitary gland makes many hormones and stores them . Pituitary is the master operator . Hypothalamus stimulates thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones which regulate the body's mechanism . energy balance , growth and nervous activity . Pituitary disorders could cause vision problems , unexplained weight gain ,loss of libido , muscle wasting , excessive sweating etc . Hypo pituitarism could cause diabetes insipidus . Blood tests measuring the levels of various hormones , MRI , CT SCAN OF THE PITUITARY GLAND , help to find the state of Hypopituitarism . When a particular hormone is found to be missing or deficient it can be replenished by hormone therapy . T Insulin secretion and regulation is the interplay of many hormones . Insulin plays the role of neuropeptide and is involved in satiety , appetite regulation , memory ,cognition and olfaction . It shares the functions along with leptin and ghrelin . Insulin resistance is associated with Alzhemers 'disease , obesity , diabetes ,etc . Insulin receptors are located in the brain in hypothalamus and hippocampus , cerebral cortex, retina and olfactory bulb .Insulin receptors are located in the anterior Pituitary gland , gonads , bones , kidneys and pancreas . Thus diabetes is not the sole prerogative of the pancreas dysfunction . Restriction of high carb diet alone is not the solution or panacea .

To be frank enough the gluco meters are not exactly reliable . It is better to go to the lab once in three months . Make of a chart of low GI foods and take down the calories and depending upon the need take that diet . Chronic excess energy consumption promotes hyper insulinaemia and insulin resistance .High fat diets are associated with insulin resistance .Of course the danger is less in good fats as per some followers of high fat diet .It is a point which is explained better by them as I don't have first hand experience in that matter . Low GI foods lower the rate of insulin secretion , as low GI food slows down the digestion , absorption and conversion of glucose . Fructose even though considered as bad for a diabetic does not elicit equal response as glucose . Resistant starch in dietary fiber decreases PPBS. It lowers triglycerides level while increasing satiety . High protein diet stimulates glycagon secretion . Nutrient diet should contain zinc , iron , phosphorous ,chromium ,magnesium etc all or else malnutrition leads to health disorder in the long run . Enough quantity of magnesium reduces the burning , sticking ,,stinging of peripheral neuropathy with out any supplements or capsules . Magnesium and zinc are found in pumpkin seeds .

Life long physical activity of about 20 minutes decreases the risk of diabetes . Sleep deprivation causes the blood sugar levels to go up and leads to insulin resistance . Sleep deprivation also causes increased concentration of Ghrelin which increases appetite .

Insulin resistance also causes Down's syndrome , Thalassaemia , Haemochromatosis , certain kind of chorea , though not frequent but in rare cases .Inherited mitochondrial disorders could cause T1 Diabetes , lactic acidosis , epilepsy ,stroke like disorders . In such cases high fat and low carbohydrate diet is recommended . NAFLD causes liver damage and so high fat diet is not recommended to all with out discrimination .
