Supplement absorption

I posted the other day about being newly diagnosed and I received loads of brilliant support and advice from people on here about supplements and lifestyle changes that can help with PD progression. I haven’t yet managed to do all the recommended reading but I’m working on it.

I’m still looking into all the supplements that people suggested taking. I take B vitamins and magnesium every evening.

What I want to know is can I chuck all of the following supplements in a smoothie (berries, greek yogurt, water, and cream) all together every day, so it’s kept simple? Or are any of them going to compete for absorption / cancel each other out?

Bacillus subtilis

Benfotiamine

Agave inulin

Nattokinase

Vitamin D3

Berberine

Taurine

Would anyone recommend splitting them?

I remember when I was pregnant, I’d been taking iron supplements for anemia with a glass of milk. It turned out I wasn’t absorbing the iron because of the calcium in the milk so it’s playing on my mind that I might be rendering one supplement useless due to it competing with another.

I suppose if we’re investing the time, money and effort into getting our supplement regimens in order – we want to ensure they’re effective.

Any insight or advice would be great.

Thank you. Sally.

HiSally,I did some research just on B vitamins, but poss.this would apply to most of the supplements on your list,it seems Dairy isn’t a good idea, you might be better with citrus, which can enhance vitamins uptake.Orange juice or apple would be good to try.Thats what my husband has each day to down his vitamin stack, making sure there’s a 2 hr gap between that and his Sinemet dose.

Thank you for this.

Drinking fruit juice is not really an option because I'm following a keto diet but I could lower the diary and up the berries or just even have the berries.

I've read that B12 shouldn't be taken with vitamin C so that's another one to watch out for.

D3 and benfotiamine need fat for absorption.

My taurine arrived this morning and it said on the bottle to have with water in between meals so that sorts that one out.

I think we'd need a PhD in chemistry to know what to do for the best!

Spacing food, supplements, and exercise is hard, especially if we're trying to incorporate fasting...just not enough hours in the day!

Which Taurine did you order and why?

I got the Solgar 500mg Taurine 'free form' vegetable capsules. I ordered the Solgar ones because Solgar are a reputable company. I got them from Amazon.

Not sure whether they're any good.

There are many B-Complex with B12 and vitamin C together. Not sure why?

I really don't know. It's hard what to believe sometimes isn't it?
