Question:

"I am having trouble sleeping. I regularly take a multivitamin, fish oil, magnesium, calcium, vitamins D and K, and a protein supplement. I also take a low-dose blood pressure medication. Could any of these supplements be causing my insomnia?"

I see the reply to the first question was that vitamin D was the likely culprit. Here in France we have regular blood tests for vitamin D. In common with many with PD, in spite of living in a sunny climate and having my own pool I lie around working on my suntan, my vitamin D levels were low and I supplement - and I sleep like a baby

When Dad was struggling to recover consciousness, energy and life in hospital recently, in addition to insisting they stop codeine, I asked them to check vitamin D levels which were "critically low" (they never did give me a figure). His recovery hospital MD is supplementing high levels of vitamin D

Then there was this article in the Guardian today theguardian.com/society/201...

Good article.

The geneticist they quoted said, “I never thought I would be a person who would take vitamin supplements, I always thought it was absolute nonsense, it’s homeopathy.” he said. What makes some doctors so close minded?

Canadians, too, are notoriously deficient on vitamin D and it causes health problems there.

I take low dose Zebeta, a beta blocker for afib and blood pressure. It definitely affected my sleep. I have read that beta blockers deplete melatonin. I take 3 mg melatonin every night and also use full spectrum cbd oil sometimes. Sleep is much better.

I've had a terrible time sleeping for at least 6 + months. After reading your post I stopped Vit D for a few days (5,000 iu daily) and my sleep has dramatically improved. My blood test for past few years were consistently 44-45. Since I started taking 5,000 (from 2,000) my count went up to 53 last month. I also take 600 mg daily of COQ10 with fish oil. Will update within a few weeks giving it more time.

5 days later... sleep continue to get noticeably better.

Good to hear your sleep improved. It's a conundrum because vitamin D is pretty good for other things. Like everything else, the right dose matters.
