Jay, this is an impossible ask!

Start here:

What problems are you trying to resolve and do you have a definite diagnosis of Parkinkinson?

Then pick the substances that bring relief, and the others you sense would be helpful.

There is no other way, where supplements are concerned. Never mind the research papers: at an individual level it is all guess work. 🌹

P.S: Maybe you can take some of the guess work out of this with extensive testing. But it sure as hell is expensive.

Here are some lab test that may be useful in trying to determine what supplements might bring the most benefit. The list is by no means exhaustive.

‌1. Homocysteine

* B6, B12 & Folate status (You can test for these individually also)

2. Insulin Resistance

Fasting Insulin. HbA1c. Fasting Glucose

3.Inflammation

hs-CRP (high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) |

The ratio of albumin to globulin in your blood (A/G ratio)

ESR - Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate

4. Vitamin D (Immunology)

5. Thyroid

TSH. Free T3. Free T4. Reverse T3

6. Uric Acid - Serum

7. Iron/TIBC/Ferritin

8. Electrolytes (Na, K, Cl)

>>>>>

Your doctor may suggest

(1) Liver Function Test

(2) Complete Blood Profile

(3) Renal Function Test

(4) Lipid Profile / (Cholesterol Test)

Hang tuff!

Finally Jay you can use what I call ‘frameworks’ to put together a stack.

A ‘framework’ involves an explanation of disease evolution and a stack of supplements and lifestyle modifications, that hopefully work in synergy to alleviate symptoms and address root causes of the problem.

Here are three ‘frameworks’.

1. The first was used extensively when my spouse was first diagnosed. Never reach the dosage levels suggested, but it did give me a starting point to put together a stack in the early days.

chiro.org/Graphics_Box_NUTR...

2. Here is one from Frank Church - a retired Professor (Pathology and Laboratory Medicine) with PD

pdfs.journals.lww.com/topic...

3. And this one I find interesting. I have incorporated some ideas, may do more in the future.( Do note the suggested use of Inosine is a no-no)

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

So there we are my friend. All frameworks - and I have a few more in my library - are just guidepost. Frameworks do help you in ‘systems thinking’ and I find these frameworks guide my thought processes in putting together a stack.

You can of course adopt any one of them wholesale, but for me this remains a do it yourself exercise.

Hang tuff!

P.S: None of these frameworks include Niacin or Lithium which I consider vital to improve the QOL of my spouse. Framework one does have NADH, which comes close. 🌺

I have concerns about Ashwagandha. I think it is a super antigen (boosts your immune system) and I think PD is an autoimmune disease. Not a good combination (in my opinion). I wrote about it: What I've learned about Ashwagandha healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

In an earlier post this week "ways to increase dopamine" ashwaganda was listed as may reduce dopamine but protects dopamine neurons and levels from stress. I was surprised at some of the supplements on the list that reportedly decrease dopamine. DHEA, GABA, Berberine, Magnoia, Vitamin C? and magnesium which is been reported to be very beneficial. It gets very confusing, I just don't want to give my HWP the wrong supplements thinking I am doing the right thing. For instance for magnesium the link is to PUBMED citing a study that "magnesium ion augmentation of inhibitory effects of adenosine on dopamine release in the rat striatum" Yeah right whatever that means.

I have to disagree with you, Bolt. Ashwagandha is a good supplement for PwP, according to my compounding pharmacist.

Thanks. I also do a series of Pranayam and deep breathing exercises hoping that it will help my body and brain to recover or minimise the damage from the onslaught of medicines and nutraceutical chemicals.

Recycle. Take a break on weekends. If you follow Ambroxol's trial, 75mg is not enough.

JayPwP profile image
JayPwP in reply to Despe

Thanks. 75 mg is the capsule strength. I will have to take 8 caps for 600 mg a day instead of 20 tabs of 30 mg each
