What I've learned about Ashwagandha

I have summarized what I've learned about Ashwagandha: pdprotocols.atwebpages.com/...

2 The Case For Ashwagandha

The best case I could find for Ashwagandha to treat PD was in this document: Withania somnifera shows ability to counter Parkinson's Disease: An Update 10/8/2015 symbiosisonlinepublishing.c...

"Discussion and Conclusion

The present study supports the fact that Ashwagandha is a potent neuroprotective agent and hence, plays a significant role in ameliorating Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder. This review paper delineates the potential of Ws to oppose oxidative damage and decline in catecholamines level and also how it exhibits synergistic effect with Mp and its role in regulation of apoptotic proteins Bcl-2 and Bax. The above discussion clearly outlines the efficiency of Ws to eradicate oxidative stress which is one of the major contributing factor in PD. Thus, the traditional use of Indian Ginseng has a logical and scientific basis which can be exploited in the research area related to PD. Moreover, clinical studies on large scale are needed to prove the efficacy of this herb, especially in PD and other neuronal disorders."

Ashwagandha is also fairly cheap if you buy the powder.

3 The Case Against Ashwagandha

- See the cautions section. Plenty of cautions.

- Parkinson's itself may be an autoimmune disease. If Ashwagandha is bad for autoimmune diseases, it may be bad for PD. journals.lww.com/neurotoday...

- Almost all of the studies on Ashwagandha and nerve cell damage in the brain have been done on animals or animal cells. webmd.com/vitamins-and-supp...

For me, for now, it's not enough to convince me to add it back to my stack (I have a confirmed autoimmune disease. I might feel differently if I did not).

Is Parkinson's considered an autoimmune disease? Do you have something in addition to Parkinson's?

I have Hashimoto's, so yes.

And PD may itself be an autoimmune disease: journals.lww.com/neurotoday...

can’t believe I missed all this - so Bolt do you take Ashwaganda? I saw a Ayavedic doctor once in Peru and he gave it to me - so I’ve taken it on and off since

I still do not take it. I don't want to amp up my immune system.

Yes, Parkinson’s maybe an autoimmune disease. The fact is very little is known about the cause(s) of PD. Toxins, your gut bacteria producing toxins, your appendix seeding, brain injury, inherited and etc., many thing are all on the list. I add another “Corruption of Brain’s Natural Rhythm” by 50/60 hz of our power grids (assuming that 40 hz light, sound and vibration really have an effect on AD and PD) after all, it is possible to escape 50/60 hz and I have live most of my life near high voltage lines. Yes, I still want to know what frequency is most commonly used in DBS (I would be surprised if it were 50/60 hz). Increase in immune system is that really all that bad in most case not so much in fact may be good during the flu season. So, many supplements say caution may lower blood sugar, that’s only a problem if a diabetic doesn’t monitor his blood sugar. What should you monitor if you have an autoimmune disease? I have no answer. And, I don’t mean you should take your Hashimoto's lightly.

Turmeric is especially beneficial for fighting inflammation, and research shows that it may help soothe some autoimmune or inflammation-related symptoms. However, curcumin is hard for the body to absorb.

BCM-95, touted as most highly bio-available Curucumin.

Maybe you should try…

Thanks, that is exactly what I take. Twice a day.

Yes. I need to go back and figure out how I came up with my dosages.

I am wondering if with meds 3 times a day would be to much.

I have not been diagnosed with PD. I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. I am not on any PD meds.

I have never had a problem with acting out a dream. I have had dreams that I cannot open my eyes, I cannot move, I am totally paralyzed and in those dreams I am trying to act out, but my body won't respond. When I did have those dreams, I would wake horrified, so I guess you could say I am on the opposite end of that spectrum than you.

Hello Bolt_Upright ~ Did you ever go back and figure out how/why you came up with your BCM-95 dose? And if so do you mind sharing your information?

Thank you ~ And have a fabulous day!

Bolt, What is your opinion of Ku Shen? It’s the one being trialed at UC Davis. House posted about I think and I think I did. It’s an MAOB inhibitor, antioxidant and I dunno. I don’t know it’s affect on the immune system.

And thank you for informing me of this about Ashwaganda
