The effect of vitamins on acetylcholine synthesis in vitro was studied. The results indicated that vitamins A and K decreased the synthesis of acetylcholinc in low and increasing concentrations. Vitamin D did not affect the synthesis in low concentrations and decreased it in higher concentrations. Riboflavin, nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, calcium pantothenatc, paminobenzoic acid, pyridoxinc, and vitamin C did not modify synthesis in low concentrations but increased it in higher ones. Vitamin B1,increased the synthesis of acetylcholine in low concentrations and decreased it in higher ones. Vitamin E increased synthesis in low and increasing concentrations. The exact mechanism by which the vitamins modify the synthesis of acetylcholine is not known. The decrease of synthesis of acetylcholme in the presence of vitamin A may have some clinical significance, since the injection of epinephrine is followed by an increased concentration of vitamin A in the serum. Vitamin E is closely related to the synthesis of acetylcholinc in the body.
