Stomach/pelvic pain early hours until you poo before diagnosis?

Hi

I’m waiting on a colonoscopy as I had a high Calprotectin test result recently I’ve just sent away the Qfit tests but unsure of those results yet. I sometimes am wakened by lower stomach pain early hours of the morning around 5 am onwards until I go for a No2 then it’s much better and relieved. Before your diagnosis of Chrons Colitis, did this happen to you also? I’m always worried something more sinister is going on but I haven’t seen visual blood in any stools and the pain does resolve once I’ve emptied my bowels. Thanks again

No, I did not have anything like that happen at all. A calprotectin test is used as a marker, a high count does not mean it's crohns disease. Hopefully your scope will be soon & the dr can find out what is going on.

It could mean an IBD though the high calprotectin level that’s what my Dr thinks and they are investigating me for that. Hopefully have answers soon

hi there please try not to worry I have exactly the same symptoms you had and worried myself to death with Dr Google!.. my fit test came back positive so my mind went into overdrive.. turned out I had polyps but one large flat one in my Cecum.. I’m actually going back today for it removing… they say polyps don’t cause pain but actually they do and emptying your bowel is a relief but painful as your bowel prior moves food through your bowel.. I was convinced I had something like cancer prior… don’t overthink it which easy for me to say.. you’ll be so relieved once your mind is put at rest after your colonoscopy.. you’ll be ok 👌

Thank you, good luck with your procedure hope it all goes smoothly. I’ve had bad exhaustion though the last few months which makes me think more IBD. Did you have tiredness with the polyps at all?

I most certainly did but because my fit test was positive I put it down to that and losing blood but there was nothing showing on my blood tests in anemia.. I do a lot of road running and really really struggled to do any.. I also felt the pain was making me feel tired also

Thank you, sounds abit similar! Did they test you for IBD I presume and rule it out?

no but my callapactin level was over 600 and initially thought it was IBD but colonoscopy ruled it out

I was in a lot of pain and felt like I had a fire in my bowels like severe inflammation.. I was convinced they’d be able to see how inflamed they were but nothing!.. just polyps and this one now a flat one I’m having removed it’s very large like a giant one 25mm!!!!

Burning pain sounds familiar I can feel like that most early mornings until I go for a no2! Did they take biopsies as sometimes some forms of IBD can only be seen via microscope like ulcerative colitis etc. is the polyp removal under general? Hope it all goes smoothly!

They did take biopsies.. I couldn’t believe you could feel so crap and be in so much pain with polyps.. I read so much prior and Dr Googled sent me down dizzy streets.. nothing other than something bad pointed to me having polyps!.. polyps don’t cause pain.. lethargy and countless other problems do they!.. that’s what Dr Googled sent said anyway and it’s false they can cause significant pain.. as your digested food moves over them in your Bowles it causes or can cause bleeding and inflammation.. my procedure is a colonoscopy again it’s called Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) ☺️

my pain seemed to disappear as soon as I went to the toilet but did come and go through the day but not as bad as through the night that was agony

I had pain throughout the night and it wasn't relieved by going to the toilet as I did that a few times. My calprotectin was never hugely raised and Colonoscopy didn't show anything but the pill camera found ulceration and inflammation in the middle of my small bowel.

HI...can I ask what your calprotectin level was that your doctor then arranged the colonoscopy?

Thank you....mine was only 156 so think that's why the doctor said to wait 6 weeks to retest....but having had these symptoms most of my life (I'm 52) & feeling rubbish with it all I just want to get it looked at now.
