Hi to all, I have just finished a course of Rifaxamine for SIBO, (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) have read that they knock out all bacteria both good and bad! What should I be doing now to encourage the good back and discourage the bad bacteria….. I have a very limited low carb low fodmap diet. Any advice would be most welcome……

I have taken rifaximin many times. I was told that it mainly targets the small bowel. "Rifaximin is a gastrointestinal-selective antibiotic with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, an excellent safety profile, minimal drug interactions, and negligible impact on the intestinal microbiome."

I don't feel that Rifaximin ( Xifaxin in the U.S.) has ever had an adverse effect on my guts, and have never felt the need for a probiotic. But as with all things, everyone is different......I mainly wanted to point you toward the article and see what the science geeks had to say
