I had a colonoscopy a few months ago and was given the all clear with some microscopic inflammation seen in the biopsies. But a recent stool sample has shown my calprotectin levels are around 6000. Back in August they were 652.
I lost a lot of weight fast last year and have been getting stomach cramps regularly. I'm also tired all the time. Is this normal?
Just looking for advice I suppose, I'm 20 if that helps.
my son who is 15 had over 6000 mg/g a month ago, and his colonoscopy also showed minimal inflammation. According to the doctors we spoke to, even with low visual inflammation, the real indicators are the numbers. Something as high as 6000 is a clear sign of severe IBD. So are your cramps and weight loss. You may want to start thinking in that direction.
6000 is very high! Are you on any medication at the moment? If so, you clearly need something more effective at controlling inflammation and symptoms. I hope your Gastro team will be in touch. If not, shout for help!
Hello thanks for your reply! I wasn't on any medication at the time but am currently 3 days into an 8 week course of prednisolone. Starting on 40mg then reducing by 5mg a week. Hopefully that'll help!
I lost a lot of weight (13kg) until the meds took a turn for the better. I managed to get a referral to the dieticians via the IBD nurses - getting ensure plus drinks on prescription was a great help in trying to claw back weight.
