Hi! I just underwent full colonoscopy and was diagnosed with mild proctitis ( only symptom prior was rectal bleeding with bowel movement) and I was prescribed mesalamine suppositories. My bowel movements have had way less bright red blood which was my main symptom before - but now smell very strange, sometimes have a lot of white coating, some blackish spots that look like black mucus in the stool and i never had any of this before, and sometimes even orange deposits floating at the top of the water. Does this sound anywhere near normal for mesalamine? Thanks so much and sorry for the gruesome details.

Hi, what you are describing sounds like the suppositories themselves. The black mucus tho' is possibly old blood. Is it in the stool or around the outside?
The black mucous which sometimes almost looks grey or dark purple is outside the stool ( which is still a normal brown color) it looks like black streaked mucous outside of it. I don’t think this is what melena is? I assume that might make the full stool black and tarry? I have a call with the GI on Monday so hopefully he gives more answers.
