I am looking for some advise from the community here.
I have never really had gut issues. Last month I started taking some Ayurvedic (natural herbs) medicines for fertility and also went on strict keto. After 3-4 weeks , developed sudden Diarrhea (12-15 bloody stools with mucous).
Infectious testing was negative , calprotectin was 80 and I was refered for a scope.
It took me 4 weeks to get an appointment for colonoscopy and during this time my symptoms improved (3 stools a day, sometimes bloody).
They found patchy inflammation of the colon during colonoscopy , biopsy was consistent and indicated mild histológicas chronic patchy inflammation. So the diagnosis is leaning towards Chrons.
I somehow don’t feel convinced that it’s Chrons , could it just be a on off thing (infection that didn’t show up, side effect of keto or Ayurvedic herbs or just bad food ?). Should I seek another opinion ??
Pls advise

Bloody stool with diarrhea in that amount is a red flag for IBD(Collitis or Chron’s)...I had Calprotectin 59, then they repeated Calprotectin and it was 275... had Colonoscopy 2 days ago and waiting for biopsy results. Tell me, did they take any biopsy samples from your colon??
Yes they did , biopsy report says patchy inflammation, mild histológical activity.
I m not convinced yet with IBD diagnosis due to 2 reasons - 1) it started suddenly (one fine day no previous symptoms), 2) it got better on its own (no meds) in the 4 weeks preceding colonoscopy
Shd I do a repeat colonoscopy/fecal calprocectin ? ??
I would definatelly ask my GI to repeat Calprotectin test. Did they make CRP (C reactive protein) from your blood? This indicates Chron’s if it’s increased.
They should do C Reactive protein blood test, they did it on me like 3 times already because they were suspecting on Chron’s, at the end it will be Colitis. Just try to talk to your GI. I am not a doctor, but if you just had Colonoscopy I do not think you need another one. Maybe you should do complete blood picture. Iron can be low and Sedimentation can be high if it’s Chron’s or Colitis. In my case, my Iron was extremelly low.
I do not have any diarrhea or pain or blood in my stool, I just have crazy crazy Nause together with weakness. I guess simptoms are different from person to person.
Like you I'd had no previous bowl problems then out of nowhere I began having bad gut pain with bloody stools I also vomited eventually taken to hospital where after a few days on introvinous antibiotics and fluids I was taken for a colonoscopy.. They found server inflammation of my uper/ lower intestines they took biopsies to but that was clear..after ten days I was discharged with a diagnosis of reactive colitis..that was in Nov 2016..just this year in Jan I was admitted to hospital in thiyroid storm my gp had put me on anti thiyroid meds in Oct of 2018 I was violently ill on them I vometed had bloody stools and server inflammation of my bowls but my gp insisted I kept on them well as I said up shot was they didn't work hence me going in to thiyroid storm.. I had to have another colonoscopy which showed server inflammation of all my intestines through that procedure I have just received a phone call to say I need to attend an appointment with an gastroentrologist on Nov 4 this year to discuss the findings of my recent colonoscopy which I was told was OK.. But the lady I spoke to said youve been diagnosed with chrons.. I have infarct just had a bad bout of diarrhea this week with bad pain for no reason.... I'm as lost as you.. As I've been told my bowl scans only showed server inflammation.. I'll be interested to see what the consultant says at my app on the 4th
I started having stomach pain last March 2018 after I ate, did not get diarrhea until November at which point I had already lost a lot of weight (I had put down to stress) and I ended up being diagnosed with moderate to severe Crohn’s. I don’t follow the usual symptoms and doctors did not pick up on it potentially being Crohn’s as I didn’t have diarrhea until much later. I also only had 1-2 instances of blood. My symptoms / path to diagnosis are slightly different but what I am trying to say is everyone is different and the main thing you need to focus on is getting better.
A biopsy from a colonoscopy is pretty conclusive, a colonoscopy with biopsies taken is also the main way they diagnose Crohn’s.
I struggled with gaining weight for most of my life, I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have been tested for thyroid issues or accused of having an eating disorder. It got really dramatic around September last year, bowel movements still totally normal but between September and November I lost 15lbs (I was already a bit underweight so this was bad) I only had diarrhea in late November and got admitted into hospital in December.
I think the weight loss was due to malabsorption from the inflammation in my bowel and also I had no appetite.
