Beachside run take 2

Well after running week 6run 3 I decided that another outdoor run would be in order. Lovely new running jacket had arrived and after finishing work I got changed and set out to do the same run and if poss a little bit longer. Firstly it was ever so slightly breezy and I have never encountered that as have always run on treadmill. Ok I thought don't panic and just keep on running. Got to the same point and just before I started along the beach I walked a coup,e of steps then off I went. Half way along I had to stop but again just walked a few steps caught my breath and ran to the middle of the beach that was my aim. Unlike last week I actually felt quite good about doing this ok had a few breaks. Yesterday oh god shins aching now I never get that so am assuming its the pavement pounding so took an extra days rest and today am back to treadmill for week. 7 run 1. Wish me luck and thanks again for the support.

Well done - sounds like an overall good beach experience? Yep, I'm kind of the other way around from you ... I have only used a treadmill a couple of times .. and, in fact, got over a particularly difficult time in the schedule as I was stuck with gasping and fluffing outside runs in grotty weather a few weeks ago. But I was only staying away from home for a little while and no longer have access to a treadmill, so all the rest of my efforts have been outside! It's true, the pavements are hard on the feet, ankles, shins, knees and hips, so I found good supportive shoes were essential. But being outside is so lovely again as the weather is picking up and the sun is putting in the occasional appearance these days. I am so envious of your seaside. All the best back on the treadmill though, its good that you're sticking with the programme ... but I do hope you will take to the outside again soon... cos it's great out there :) Best of luck with week 7 :D

Did I read somewhere that running on sand is better because it absorbs the impact? Think I'll go and google and see. :-)

Best of luck with your next run.

Running on sand lessens the impact, but is _really_ hard work. And if you feel you want to punish yourself for something then running up sand dunes are the answer...

Lots of luck - you're getting there, and you'll soon have that lovely green badge! Well done for being brave and trying outside. I'm the other way round - I hate the treadmill and would much rather be outside, but all credit to you for trying :) Best of luck for your next runs - let us know how it goes.

Thanks my next run is tomorrow on the treadmill. Outside is so much harder and after last weeks outside run my shins took three days to recover. So am going to finish my weeks treadmill runs before I venture outside. Thanks for the encouragement I read all the posts before I do my next run.
