Keeping on keeping on......

I just noticed that I haven't blogged for a couple of weeks, but have been getting lots of pleasure reading everyone's progress reports and inspiration from the battles won.

I had a week off with injury then got back to my interval, tempo and long slow run routine which suits me a treat. I can really feel the progression and my fave is always the intervals! It amazes me that I can sprint for 400m and i always end up on a mahussive adrenaline high. I do kettlebell squats in the rest period so it's a really good workout. I am also back to doing Pilates before the intervals, this works so well because it really warms and opens the body up for sprinting. After the class I go straight into the gym and get started. Tempo runs are still going well and I am using these to get my 5k to a reasonable time. My long slow 10k runs are just that and thankfully the weather has been cold but dry so I have been outdoors much more. The weight training classes are also going well, over the last year my muscles have become much stronger and I know this helps my body on so many levels, not just with running.

I think I will just hold this space for a few weeks and enjoy it, my body will let me know when it has consolidated and is ready to increase the distance but I guess a month will be plenty of time. I really want to avoid injury and I think this will help.

A lovely thing happened.....Last Saturday, having been thinking about it for a while, out 10 year old daughter Josephine began c25k :) we go her kitted out with a new pair of trainers, lent her my iPod and told her she was in charge. So Matt and I followed her around the bay and it was really lovely to see her confident self jogging on in front of us. Before hand I was feeling like I really wanted to avoid a situation where it was like she was running to keep up with us and we were always telling her what to do. I thought it would build her confidence better if she was in front......well it did and like her father she is in the hurry up gang! Despite me imploring her to slow down she found her own comfortable pace and it matched her dads lol so I ended up having to speed up!! So it turns out that I am doing c25k again but quicker this time :) result! I have advised her to do the program over 18 weeks to give her body time to adapt but to see how she feels so we will see. Think I might end up a bit knackered at some point doing her runs, my runs and classes but will see what happens. Matt and I were so proud on Saturday morning, our little family out for our first jog together :)

And to finish......a Spring Equinox blessing for us all

May you be like the soil.

Become ready for turning,

And welcome new life.

May you be like the bud.

Recognize your potential,

And expand into color.

May you be like the river.

Receive the new waters,

And move forward with power.

May you be like the sun.

Go forth into spring

And bring light to the world.

Sounds as though it's all going really well - that's lovely to hear :)

My 11-year-old DD is wanting to have a try at C25K, as distance running is the bit of sports she most enjoys at school, but they only do it for a few weeks in the summer. I might have to try getting it on her Mp4, and set her going round the playing field (at least for the first few weeks!) as there's no way I could cope with running 6 times a week! :o

Sounds like you are handling your daughter's c25k very wisely - I wish everyone was as sensible, at parkrun I have seen parents pushing & cajoling kids who were plainly tired out & it's so sad. It's lovely you're enabling her to do this because she wants to and at her own pace. Wishing you lots of happy family jogs. :-)

Ah thanks so much, it really was lovely. I recently saw a similar thing at an organised 10k we did. There was a 1k fun run for families before hand, some of the Poor things were being dragged by competitive parents rather than running and fun was nowhere to be seen!

Thanks rainbow Haha I know what you mean! Wow sounds like your 11 year old will enjoy it If she is into long distance running. Our daughter is not very sporty - more into sewing and reading lol but she informed me on Saturday that once she puts her mind to it she is determined and never gives up on anything.....bless :)

Ah thanks greenlegs she is lush but I am biased ;) she has recently discovered Jane Austen and is addicted so between that and her trying to teach me cross stitch (to no avail) I am having a second childhood lol

Always welcome Tish :) I built up very slowly to all this working out and really enjoy it. I work from home but it's not for everyone. If you really are keen look on you tube there is some amazing stuff. Also a free android app called daily abs is great, very quick and to the point.
