Different factors-harder run

So a few things different today:- I had a rubbish sleep, had to take my son to school for transition day so had to do my run later than normal and climbed moel famau yesterday. I don’t know if I’m using these as an excuse for a struggling day but I started off with a stitch, don’t know if I was hungry or not but I kept the pace really slow. Got through the horrible 5 minutes when the legs feel like 2 lead weights and carried on. I tried to slow down when I was really tired but it’s actually hard to slow down when you feel like your going your slowest to start with. I plodded on and was 12 seconds over doing 5k in 30 mins so I’m really proud of that and I will take that achievement. I may leave 2 rest days instead of one, will see how I feel on Friday. Next week I’m back to work and runnin after work, be interesting to see how it differs to morning runs.

Thanks I think I’m too hard on myself sometimes 🙂

That’s a great run. May have been tough, but the results are plain to see.

That's absolutely brilliant, but I think you're being a bit hard on yourself! From my 20 minutes run last week I worked out my pace to be a 42 minutes 5k but I'm happy with that seeing as as I've only just started running. I always thought I was reasonably fit due to my cycling but doing C25K has told me otherwise. Keep up the good work.

I am far too hard on myself. I think because I’m not a total beginner I expect to be better and fitter quicker but I think I will just chill a bit and just be proud of being out running 🏃‍♀️

Err, let me get this straight. You climbed yesterday, had a poor nights sleep and took your son off to his transition day... and you still did this?

You should be very, very proud of yourself and not be berating yourself.

Thank you so much when you say it like that it puts it more in perspective. I am proud of what I did, thanks for making me see it for what it really was 😁

Bottom line is you did the run. You didn't NOT do the run. So you have the benefit of it whether it felt good or not. Certainly the lack of sleep will have made it less enjoyable. Also, I don't know your usual pace but if you went faster than usual you'll have suffered for that too. FWIW on most of the long rus I was more than a minute per km slower than I had been doing earlier in the programme and that wasn't by choice, it was the only way to finish. I did get most of that pace back after graduation as I got used to running for longer - in other words, don't worry if you end up going a lot slower in weeks 7 8 and 9, the reduction in pace won't be permanent but you need to build up endurance first.
