No run since Sunday :-((

I'm not sure why, but body refuses point blank to leave the house for a run when it's so cold. I really want to run, but even walking out the bin makes me want to run and hide. How do others get over the obstacle of just getting out of the house in such cold weather?

Difficult. I readthatsomepeople hit the gym and some do the stretch and flex until it gets a bit warmer. Maybe you could do some warm ups before you leave?

Good luck you know you want to really!

Don't think about it! Easier said than done I know but if I think about how cold it is outside I probably would just spend longer under the bed covers.

Make sure you wrap up warm, I layer up so I can easily take something off if I get too hot (not an issue with these temperatures though!).

I look forward to the reward of a bath when Im done. & the house feeling warm when I come in. I do layer up. I have a compression thermal cheapo top from aldi/lidl that I wear under my running top & that is perfect for keeping me warm enough, even on the cool down walk home.

also that feeling of smugness of coming home not having seen another jogger :)

I run in the mornings so I find that if I get up and put my running gear on I'm already telling myself that I'm going out! Apart from anything else, I'd feel a complete wuss if I then had to go and change out of it. I nearly wimped out this morning as it was soooooo cold and frosty, but I was dressed so off I went - and did a 7k! :-)

I did do a few minutes of warming up just jogging around the house to make sure I was ready to face the chill, which I find gets me in the right mood, too.

I leave my running gear out on show to entice me out the door and once it's on its then hard not to run! :) If I am running after work it is there on the bed for me to change into as soon as I get in. It is actually really invigorating running in the cold! :O

I give myself a good talking to. Then I think well I'll just do 15-20 minutes as it's so cold. Once I get going I'm fine. Just gotta do it! :-)

I was thinking maybe I'll do my warm-up by going up and down stairs a few times, instead of walking outside if it's freezing cold. It's a tough one!

I forced myself out for a run after work last night but only managed 20 mins because the pavements were so icy I was scared of falling. I figured a short run is better than no run but I was still disappointed I hadn't managed to run for the full 30 minutes. Despite the freezing cold I enjoyed it.

2 things have given me motivation. 1. I have signed up for Manchester 10k in May. I have a goal to work towards and a reasonably strict time limit. 2. I have banged on about running to everyone I know. I have told them I am going to run a 10k in 4 1/2 months from scratch. I know if I don't stick to it I will fail to meet my 10k goal in time and I will feel ashamed and embarrassed in front of them.

I wrap up in stupid amounts of layers including a hat and gloves and get Laura wittering at me. Then I think about the nice hot shower, brew, bicuit and book I can curl up with after.

Also if everyone else can do it, so can I.

And if all else fails I promise myself to do it tomorrow :-D

Good luck!

I think it might be my lack of layers that's causing part of the problem. I'm heading out tomorrow if I can get through the snow to buy new running clothes, que hotwave, lol. I'm also doing the Manchester 10k so just need to kick my bum out that door.
