In 40 minutes I'm due to leave and drive to Brighton (picking up a friend on the way who has bravely offered support) and run in the Brighton Fun Run which was supposed to happen 2 weeks ago, but which has been postponed to today and is happening in Hove (actually!), because the course at Brighton 2 weeks ago was too muddy.
The irony is that it's been pouring with rain all night here and is still raining. It's cold, it's a Sunday morning and I'm wavering. When my husband got up to do get the car out to do his paper round (yes really!), the battery was flat. I was secretly hoping that he wouldn't be able to get it going so that I'd have a legitimate excuse not to go (other than rain and cold!). But, no, he called someone who came and gave his battery a jolt and off he went.
I am going to go. But I just wonder how much fun a Fun Run can be in the wet and cold?
What is astonishing is that I am even considering going! 3 months ago if I'd even have had to walk to the local shop 5 minutes away and it was raining, I would have got the car out. But now, NOW, I'm paying to go and run 5k in a park 40 minutes drive away. For fun. FOR FUN!
Some weird kind of s**t is going on here.....
We shall see......

I'm sure it will be great fun, as I sit drinking my tea I am full of admiration for you and sending you good vibes. (if it makes you feel better have to watch my son play football in the rain for 2hrs shortly). Hope you have a great run. Enjoy we are all proud of you!
Have a Fun Run and well done for getting to the point where the prospect of a run can be anything but dread I'm hoping to get out there in the next half hour or so (also in the south of England) but the sky just seems to get darker....
Our weatherman here in Switzerland has just informed us that the south of England and a few other places are getting a WHOLE lot of rain atm. Well done you for going anyway, just make sure you reward yourself suitably afterwards
Good for you, Viv! It's good(?) you're going with a friend otherwise it would have been easier to pull out. Once you get there the stiff upper lip spirit will kick in and you'll all have a great time. I've almost talked myself into joining you if only I didn't live about 500 miles away from Hove! Btw this must be one of the very few occasions ever that our weather is better than yours!
I couldn't agree more!!! In one week Gayle and I have driven over 350 miles and paid about $120.00 for both of us to be in two runs! HUH??? Four months ago you would have had to pay us to be in a run in our own town and now we are paying and driving to go to runs??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? What the S**t???
Well, it was good fun! It was! It rained most of the way down there, but stopped just before we got there. Had a warm-up in the mud and then off we went around the park for 2 1/2 laps on path, so that was fine. Did the first lap and I thought, 'well, this is ok, I can easily handle another 1 1/2 of these." WRONG! The 1st lap was actually the 1/2 lap! So the next two laps were 4 times that. But it was o.k. There were a lot of runner/walkers so I would pass someone walking, then they'd pass me when they started running and so it went. But it was a great atmosphere and very well organised and I got my first medal!
Only thing is I don't know what my time was - my friend reckons it was about 25 mins, but I don't think so. I don't know what time we started or what time I finished cos my mate had misjudged it and was in the cafe when I passed the finish line and I don't wear a watch.
And after we had lunch in the park cafe, which was fab, finished off with some rocky road (had to top up my energy stores!), and came out to blue skies and sunshine.
So, all in all, am very glad that I went and it beats lolling around the house.
