For the past week I've been unwell with sore ear and throat! Went to the doctors last week and am heading back there today as there is no improvement.
I decided not to run as although it might make me feel better...it might also make matters worse being out in the blistering cold. And I really want to be well for the Christmas holidays.
One week without running and I can already feel the negative impact on my mental health. Seriously considering getting a treadmill so I can run indoors and avoid the cold...

Perhaps get out for a nice winter walk if you are well enough, be gentle on yourself but some fresh air (and sunshine?) should chase those blues away till you feel ready to run again. Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry to hear you’re suffering, and hope you’re well again soon. In the meantime you could try the NHS Strength and Flex podcasts. I’m doing them on my rest days and have noticed improvements both generally and when running. They start quite gently (apart from the dreaded thigh stretch: I’m sure my limbs are disproportionately short), Laura is there to talk you through, and best of all, you can do them inside in the warm and dry !
Good call... don’t worry about the runs, hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon and there the runs will be, patiently waiting for you. Treadmill could be the way to go for the coldest of the weather, but either way you’ll be doing it again soon... keep up some exercise if you’re up to it, and maybe relaxation sessions will help with the mental health.
Thanks! Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon enough. I feel like a treadmill might be the best bet for winter time as I wonder if heading out in the freezing cold might make me more prone to catching bugs and colds...
Very unlikely... viruses and bacteria don’t reproduce well in cold weather... they much prefer a nice warm surface like door handles. Hypothermia is highly unlikely indoors though 😂
Good point! But also a good point about hypothermia 😂
I do wonder if running indoors will not have the same mental benefits as being outside in the fresh air. I'll buy a treadmill this weekend and see how it goes...
