Lost motivation

From Wk 1 to wk 4, I could not wait to go out for a run, then, it got cold outside and I just lost motivation to run. What should I do to keep momentum?

Hi sash it is easy to not bother especially when it is inclement.

However if you remember the reasons you started in the first place

maybe that helps. For me its to enter a half marathon next Oct to

raise money for charity. Another thing i dislike is running alone so

i go to my local Parkrun where i can run with others. Great fun and

excellent for motivation. Good luck, Ed x

I like the idea of entering a half marathon. I will look for one to enter in my area.

Thank you so much

Sasha.

I decided which days I was going to run on and stuck to it. I've only postponed 1 run due to weather and that was due to icy pavements and safety!

If you're anything like me you are pretty warm within 5 minutes of running anyway so its just the initial 1st steps out the door which are chilly. I think I may be a bit strange though because I actually enjoy running in the cold and dark!!

whatever you find to motivate you, hope its successful and you don't feel like you want to give in :-)

That makes two of us who are a bit strange Hevs, I too like running in the dark and don't mind the cold at all. Although I've only started running in winter and have yet to experience anything else.

I hate running in the dark and cold, but always feel better once done. You could maybe write a few sentences down about your mindset before you leave for your run, then do the same again once you get back and have all the positive endorphins flowing around your body.

The main thing is to get out and do it, no matter how much you don't want to. It's only half an hour and it will soon be done. Just think how much better you'll feel at the end of week nine (and how much fitter you already are). It will be all the better for you because it WASN'T an easy two month ride, but something you have really worked at to achieve.

You are right, I feel really good after a run. I will try your idea of writing how I feel before and after,

Thank you so much.

this helps me too. Within a minute or two of running I've forgotten that I didn't feel like going, usually. And it is usually worth it, the world looks lovely covered in frost and I get such a hit when I get home, in the first few seconds of that hot shower :-)

Thanks for your post. I've been struggling with lack of motivation since it's been colder and I'm at a similar stage to you. I've also been unwell which hasn't helped. Hope you get going again - I'm determined I'll be out for a run this weekend.

Just do it. Really, don't think about it. Just get your kit on and head out the door.

Just remember how fantastic you'll feel when you finish - it works for me every time.

Keep a diary or log ... it will help you work out what works and does't work for you. As in the time of day, time since eating, daylight or dark, how you felt afterwards. It will also help you track your progress. Using an app like endomondo can work wonders too.
