Well today I completed run 2 of week 6 and was very happy with myself! After run 1 of this week I really wasn't sure I could do it. My boyfriend had decided he wanted to come along for a run and we took his two dogs. I mainly road run as its more even and I know what to expect but the boyfriend wanted to go through the forest. Obviously this was safer for the dogs as well, so I agreed. My boyfriend had never run with me before or had ever looked at the couch to 5k run but he kicked my butt! He beat my by quite a way and then said at the end he could have easily gone faster. This deflated me somewhat, after being so proud of myself the week before and I felt I had really come quite far. He practically walked it. He had to work when I decided to do run 2 so I was secretly quite glad.

I enjoyed run 2, i had planned a new route (a bit of road and a bit of forest) and was eager to get going. I was exhausted by the time Laura had told me to slow down and walk after my 2nd 10minutes but I had pushed a boundary I had never before. This was the first run I had recorded the distance using an app on my phone. When I looked at it, I couldn't believe it! It said 4.91km in 32mins! This was including the walks I had done as well which is making me feel very confident about run 3 on Friday :).

The only problem is the boyfriend wants to come again...

Hi Lazy_moo, well done on Run 2. You sound very determined and positive, good for you. With regards to 'the boyfriend' I know everyone is different but I would ask him if he wouldn't mind waiting until your further along the program and at a stage where running with him won't dent your confidence. I have said to a couple of people who have said they'll come out with me that I want to do this on my own for now; I don't want to feel I am not good enough or up to their standards, we deserve to be proud of what we've achieved and it shouldn't be overshadowed. Good luck with run3, all the best :)

It's hard to tell people they are causing you a problem - especially when you know they mean to be supportive. Whether you decide to ask him to wait or not - remember that although he may be faster & fitter now, you are getting better with every run - you will get there. Its been said by many before but its so true - remember however many people you think are faster or better than you, you are lapping all those thousands still on the couch!
