Timed v distance C25K?

I am using Run Double app on my phone and they offer both a timed or distance C25K programme. My question is has anyone used the distance rather than timed version? I think the timed version is good for the early days (ie nice to know that the light is at the end of the tunnel) but the distance one might be good in the latter stages to improve timing.
