Race for life on sunday...why why why

Hello everyone,

I am in a bit of a pickle. I have signed up to do race for life this Sunday but have found that I have somehow pulled a chest muscle. This has never happened to me before but I can tell you it is agony. Is it a good idea to try and shuffle with this or do I admit defeat? I haven't been able to run since last week so I am already worried about a drop in fitness and stamina.

What do you guys think or suggest?

If you can walk OK without it hurting, then I'd walk it. If people have sponsored you and you can do it, then I would, but I wouldn't run it. There's no point making yourself worse. As for your fitness, I've read that it takes about 10-14 days to lose fitness. And if you're out of action for longer than that, you already know how to increase fitness again. Just start C25K again from a bit further back than where you've got to. It's frustrating, I know, but it's not something that you can't fix later when you're well again. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hey,

Thanks so much. I think I will see how I go and maybe book into the doctors just to check. I have self diagnosed myself so who know :). I could walk. Problem is a get the pain so i am tensing my whole body.

Then I would definitely go and see the doctor. And while you're there, ask what he/she thinks about you doing the Race for Life.

Race for life on sunday...why why why - are you asking why did you register to do it? Then I'd answer cos your a good person and its a wonderful cause. If your asking why the injury? I would say these things are sent to test us and make us all the stronger when we rise above the challenge. Please go and get it checked out though, the chest pain could as you say be a pulled muscle in which case the doctor can advise you on something to take to ease the pain. To walk it would be wonderful but to try and run and make yourself worse could lead to a disaster. Take care and all the best for a speedy recovery and I hope you manage to do your RFL and remember there is no shame in walking it, many do.

Get it checked out by the doc and if you are cleared to walk do the RFL Plenty people walk it. I'm sure your sponsors won't pull out even if you can't make it.
