Not by choice but leaving this GREAT Forum.

In hindsight, with my previous back problems, overweight and having never ever run, this is perhaps not for me. Also I've been told that my ligaments and joints are very hyper-mobile, this causes a lot of the pain.

Through my own ignorance on W1 R1, I wore the wrong footwear which has caused me a knee problem (Sprained medial collateral ligament), not life threatening but if I continue to run, I may end up worse for wear. Currently got several sticky strips lengthwise on my leg, to help support ligaments etc.

Friends who run also my Chiropractor have agreed, that perhaps at 62 I should stick to what I already enjoy and have no problems with, cycling, swimming, walking and badminton.

I thought trying to run would help with any osteoporosis that may start in the future, so for anybody, running is yet another good reason to run.

Never mind, I have had fun reading all the Blogs and Questions, good luck to all those who are struggling and good luck to those now wanting to run Marathons. :)

Final comment, don't run before you can walk............. ;)

PS Don't you just love being able to edit photos, got to confess my leg is not as slim as this...............lol

So sorry to hear it didn't work out for you :-( I have a friend in her early 50's who suffers from hypermobile joints (a family trait), and who last year ended up tearing a tendon in her ankle. She had to wait ages for an operation and during that period, the change in her walking gait really affected her back, hips and other ankle. She now has to wear splints on both ankles, has to have made-to-measure orthopedic inserts and is suffering badly from back problems. Her problems only started after she took up running, so I think you're being wise. Before then, she'd cycled for miles most days of the week, so probably fitter than a lot of people half her age. Take care and I hope you're knee recovers soon :-)

That's a shame. I'm in a similar position. I have arthritis in my knees, neck and left foot and chronic back pain and my body really does not like running. It hurts A LOT to run and afterwards. I just told myself that I don't have to run, I can do other things...I just always wanted to run though, to get out more (I'm agoraphobic) and get some fresh air.....

It's good that you found out early days before you did more damage that may have been irreversible? At least you gave it a blimmin good try - more than a lot of people would have so good for you. And you do have other things you enjoy doing. All the best whatever you do..... :)

Sorry you're leaving but it sounds as if you've made the right choice. Hope you're feeling better soon. It sounds as if you are fairly active anyway so keep on enjoying the things that work for you. All the best :-)

Sorry to hear that you're leaving us :( Your ideas for the site have been great and I hope that some of them will actually materialise in the future. Good luck with all the other sport you do!
